Why I Chose Mikey Over Milk

TODAY

There was no milk. I opened the fridge and there was no milk. There was a pretty much full carton last night when I came home from the My Chemical Romance gig at Wembley. It was the best night of my life, to be honest. They get back together after three years and their first gig in the tour is ten minutes from my uni? What are the chances!? They were incredible; the music was so intense and it felt as if the whole world was screaming along with them. And the best part? I met them afterward. Ray is the sweetest guy on the planet and Frank and Gee, for two married men, couldn't seem to keep their hands off each other. (I get led backstage and see Frank Iero lying on Gerard, full on making out with him, what!?) But in all honesty, I paid the three of them far less attention than I did the younger Way brother.
Mikey Way is perfect. That's pretty much all there is to it. His hair falls flawlessly over one eye and his lips are so beautiful and felt so soft when he kissed my cheek. The way he smiled made my heart flutter; he never used to smile much, but he spent pretty much all last night giving me shy smiles when more of the others were looking. And his eyes. When he greeted me backstage, I felt as if I was getting lost in his bright eyes; I swear I could look at them for ever and never want to move.
"There seems to be no milk anywhere. No one can explain what has happened, but not only cartons and bottles have vanished, but animal's milk too..." The sound of the tv snapped me out of my thoughts of Mikey Way. No milk. Anywhere... It suddenly dawned on me that it was all my fault.

THE PREVIOUS DAY

"(Y/n)." My friend Julia was tapping on my shoulder. "(Y/n). You need to focus. Do you want to fail your exams?"
"Huh?" I looked up in confusion. "Of course I don't want to fail."
She raised one eyebrow skeptically and gestured to the notes on the desk in front of me. We were revising for our physics finals; or at least, Julia was. I had been doodling lyrics and other stuff to do with My Chemical Romance all over my paper, but two words were repeated more than anything else--
"Mikey Way..." Julia read. "Whose he?"
I felt my face heat up with embarrassment as I mumbled, "He's the bassist in my favourite band. They broke up in 2013 but tonight is the first night of their comeback tour!"
"A *bass guitarist*? God, your standards have fallen."
I turned to face Julia, "Your ex boyfriend was a viola player, remember?" I muttered indignantly.
"Oh please. Why do you think I broke up with him?"
I laughed and began to colour, in black, the childish hearts I'd used as dots on the various 'Mikey's I'd drawn on my page.
"Come on, (y/n). What's so great about Mikey Way, anyway?"
"He's part of a band that... well... they don't *save* people's lives... but they give people the conviction to carry on living. All four of them are so inspirational; and Mikey is damn gorgeous."
"But he's a bass guitarist!" I heard Julia's incredulous mutter and somehow managed to stifle a laugh. I couldn't wait until I finally got to meet Mikey, but for the time being, I needed to focus on work.
I looked over Julia's shoulder, trying to catch up with the notes. Astronomy? Really? Could we be studying anything more boring? I hated... well, actually, most days I loved astronomy, but today? Everything paled in comparison to the thought of--
"Mikey Way!" I exclaimed, hitting Julia energetically on the arm. "You wrote Mikey Way!"
She shook her head with exasperation, "It says Milky Way, not Mikey Way."
"Milky? Urgh. Mikey is so much better than milk."
"Is he though?" Julia asked. "If you had the choice between Mikey and milk, what would you choose? Oh and whichever you don't choose will vanish for ever."
"Mikey, of course. I don't even like milk."
"Yeah, but all the milk in the world will vanish. Think of all the animals that will die because of you!"
"Still Mikey." I answered. "Mikey, and Frank, Ray and Gerard, have saved people's lives. What has milk ever done for anyone, anyway?"
"Fine." Julia warned. "On your head be it."

TODAY

"Great." I muttered. "That's just brilliant." I had caused all the milk in the world to disappear... There would be global catastrophe... But hey, on the bright side, Mikey Way still exists. I picked up my bag off the kitchen table and shrugged to myself. All I could do was head off to uni. Unless I was willing to sacrifice Mikey, then the world was gonna have to get used to this lack of milk.

The way to my uni was across a park; I walked this way every day and had never encountered any problems... until today. Typical.
"Hey! Gimme your bag!" I felt a hand grip my shoulder, trying to get at my bag.
"Get off!" I shouted, spinning and shoving my attacker hard in the chest. I, stupidly, thought he'd let go, and was totally unprepared for his fist connecting with my cheekbone. Pain lanced through my face and I dropped to the ground.
"Help me!" I cried out, trying to get the attention of four guys not too far away. I hadn't noticed them before, but hey, I'll take any help I can get.
I was still on the clutching my face and kicking at my attacker when I've of the four men, a skinny blond guy, ran up to us.
"Get the fuck away from her, dude. That's so not cool. Frank, gimme a hand." My holy saviour called over to his friend, after attempting to punch the bag-snatcher and... well... not really achieving much. Weak-ass.
The Frank guy had come over and was dealing (far more successfully) with my attacker, but Blondie had knelt down beside me.
"You okay?" He asked me, and I looked up, ready to thank him profusely when--
"Holy shit, you're Mikey Way."
"Yeah," He smiled at me, sending flutters through my chest. Wow. Mikey fucking Way just saved my life! (Or, well, my bag's life...)
He held his hand out to me and helped me to my feet.
"Hey, um, I remember you from the gig last night. (Y/n), right?" Mikey asked, a blush forming high in his very well defined cheeks. I raised an eyebrow, waiting for his to elaborate.
"I... um... well-- I really like you, okay?" I felt a grin begin as I heard Mikey's words.
"Just kiss her already, bro." Frank called.
"Okay."
As Mikey's soft lips touched mine, I thought to myself, *now this is why I chose Mikey over milk*
