A Kindle of Magic

CHAPTER-1: HOME SWEET HOME!

     *RINGING DOORBELL*

     I am standing outside with luggage on both my shoulders and in one hand, ringing the doorbell continuously with my free hand. 

     OK! Before you start judging me; it's not like there's no place for me to keep the bags, it's just that i don't want to waste time picking up bags when the door opens. After staying the whole semester away from home even you would want to fling your bags inside as soon as the door opens and leap onto your dear family and stay like that as if there's no tomorrow!

     At last someone's there at the door, opening it. I hope it's mom! The door opens a little, I can see it's pitch dark inside, if compared to the over illuminated lobby. Why on earth are my Mom and sister sitting in dark? And who the hell's opening this door so slowly as if it's a horror movie going on. As the door opens there's no one in front of me. I assume probably it's the doings of my sister, Gaby, who's mostly hiding behind the door while opening it. I just kept the bags beside the door and quickly went behind it to get hold of Miss Gabriella Bates, the troublemaker of the house! 

     I was surprised to find out there's no one there! Suddenly the door closes behind me! Woah! What just happened? Since it was a new house and I hadn't got much of a chance to get acclimatized to it and it's interiors, I kept waving my hands in the air, trying to get hold of a wall, in pitch darkness.

     Suddenly someone put a hand on my shoulder! 

     "What the...", before i could finish i saw a ghostly face right in front of me. It was so close as if it would eat me now! I jumped with fright almost 5 feet away from the spot i was standing at! And suddenly all the lights came on! In place of that ghost face I could see my sister holding the torch, laughing hard, holding her stomach. My Mom came out from somewhere too laughing even harder. 

     All I could do was just keep staring at them processing what just happened! As I came back to my senses I ran behind Gaby to punch her right in that 'ghost face' of hers. 

"I am gonna kill you Gaby! How dare you try to scare me? Do you have any idea what I just went through?"

"As if i care Roch!", She said still laughing while running.

At last when we got out of breath we sat down with our Mom, Lacey Bates. I went and hugged my mom.

"Welcome home, Dear!" She said with loads of love in her voice.

"I can't believe it Mom! You were also involved with this devil, Gaby? I thought you loved me more?" I said planting a kiss on her cheek.

She laughed and jokingly added, "Yeah! This devil makes my life a living hell anyways!" 

Gaby glared at her.

     Oh! This is what I miss the most. Being at home... Some unchangeable ordinary things. Something that I can always come back to.

     I am sitting on my bed, in my room, looking out of the huge full length glass window. What a delicious dinner it was after such a long time. I guess I over ate too! I got up from my place and went to the window to stand. Our 10th floor apartment looked over the view of a junction of four roads. I stood there staring at the few vehicles passing by as it was too late in the night. I could hear the light breathing of Gaby on the other side of the bed. It felt so good to be back... HOME SWEET HOME!

     As I stared onto the road, there was flicker of movement. I could see that something swooshed on the road and went ahead. I tried to follow it with my eyes, leaning over the sill, as it went by leaving a golden trail behind it. But it soon faded away leaving the road just as it was a few seconds ago. As if nothing ever happened. I gave up and kept wondering what was it... a firefly? a device? Or something?

     I was about to turn around and go back to bed, when... something caught my attention again. Something right in the middle of the junction!
