Paul's P.O.V   Past Time 1 year ago

A burst of air hit me when I forced the double doors to the emergency room open. I started to panic when I found out Katherine was in the hospital. I was at work when they called me, but they didnt tell me why she was here. I prayed to god she was okay, she was my life in another body, she had to be okay. I jogged to the receptionist and asked what room was Katherine in. After she told me I ran across the quarters and rushed into the room they held her in. When she looked at me I saw pain, sorrow and fear in her eyes. I rushed to comfort her as she cried and clutched to my shirt. "Its okay sweetheart. I'm here." I told her. "Whats wrong baby? Are you hurt?" I asked as I leaned back to examine her. Before she could respond a male doctor came in. "Oh, are you the husband?" he asked. "Yes I am. Can you tell me what's wrong with my wife?" I asked. He looked confused for a moment as he looked at Katherine. When he looked back at me I saw sympathy. Clearly I was missing something. "Oh, you don't know... Let me give you two a minute." he said quickly and left the room before I could respond.

I looked at Kat expectantly while she cleared her throat. "Paul, I want you to listen to everything I have to say and don't speak until I'm done okay?" I nodded and waited for her to continue. She looked down at her hands and everywhere else except at me as she began. "We've always been happy and young and adventurous. We were always safe when we did intimate things..or so I thought. I didn't want to tell you because you have everything going for you right now and I was afraid it would stop you from doing other things in your  life. Plus I was afraid it would ruin my body and stop me from pursuing my dreams and aspirations as a striving model and-" she stopped as I started to back away. "Please Paul don-" she started to reach for my hand but I snatched it back in disgust. There were a million things going on in my head. She couldn't be serious..this isn't real. "What are you saying Katherine." I growled. She stayed silent for a moment then finally spoke. "I had an abortion Paul."

I took another step back and closed my eyes as I pinched the bridge of my nose.
Think Paul. Think. She opened her mouth to speak again but I raised my hand to silence her. I walked over to the window and looked at nothing in particular as I tried to process the news. Katherine was pregnant... I was going to be a father... Katherine had an abortion, killing our child... I was no longer a father. I took a deep breath and turned towards my wife. I gave her the cold blank glare I was known for as I spoke. "Here's what's going to happen. You are going to be discharged in a few hours, then you will grab your things from my penthouse." She sat up quickly. "Paul please! You have to know I didn't mean to hurt you!" she cried. But that was bullshit, she knew exactly what she was doing the moment she did it. "You will sign the divorce papers and be set as far as needs go. But you will never call me again. Nor contact anyone in my circle to reach me or so help me god I will ruin you." I said through clenched teeth. "Do you understand." She sat there crying and looking at me with pleading eyes. "Paul.." When I continued to stare wordlessly, she nodded. With that being done with, I quickly made out of the hospital. I couldn't let her see how much this abortion would possibly break me. When I got back inside my hummer, I lost it. With my rage hitting its highest peak, I just started breaking shit. I smashed my radio into pieces and ripped the compartment door off its hinges.I could kill her ass for this. How could I be so caught up in her to not see this coming? "Fuck!" I roared, seething. There was a lot of things I could handle but how was I suppose to handle this kind of hole in my chest. She's lied and cheated countless times but I've always tried to change that.  I've wanted a child for as long as I could remember but I wanted to have one the right way. Success, love, marriage and finally the kids. Maybe that was why I dealt with her bullshit shenanigans for so long. Not anymore. I sighed once more before regaining my composure. With a new plan in mind, I started my truck and pulled off.
