I turned to see those eyes piercing into mine from the shadows. I knew he had been following me, I should've known. The way I was being watched made me feel like prey. Then again, I was to him, but he'd never. I turned back onto the street and continued walking to my car. All I had to do was avoid the conversation he wanted to have. I didn't want to talk about it. I shouldn't have even talked to him about it. I shouldn't have protected him, but there was simply something I couldn't ignore about him. This was stupid and dangerous, but I'd always had a taste for danger...

" What's a little cop like you doing out here so late? Pretty little thing... Green eyes, brown hair. Hmm, so... Henderson wanna talk about what happened? "

Ringgg! Brinnngggg! "Holy! Fuck! Oh shit I'm late! Fucking late! Damn it all can't fucking get up on time!" I nearly body slammed my dresser as I yanked fresh clothes out and threw them towards the bathroom. I pulled my phone off of the charger and looked at the screen; Saturday, December 23rd. "Oh, of course! It's my fucking day off! Hahaha. Jokes on me." I dragged myself back over to my bead, face first and spread out, "Fuck me." Ha, if my asshole of a partner was here she'd make a comment about that one... If only she was here. Damn I missed her. It'd be great if she could come back sooner...

I wasn't sure what to do. I hadn't had a day off since the accident, to stuck in my work I suppose. That's when I realized I was starving and had no food in the kitchen but some stale cereal, guess that's what happens when you're never home.

Perks of being a detective: adrenaline rush and saving people.
Cons: Never home and ridiculous when it comes to food.

"Oh my god I'm seriously talking to myself. I'm still doing it. Damn... "

My thoughts and my conversation with myself were interrupted by my phone going off again. Of course it was work. Calling. Again.

" Henderson. "

" Hey, it's me Jacob. I need your opinion on something, and no, you don't have to come in. Just, this guy, found dead in an alley by a bar, no wounds but sign of struggle. Any ideas? "

" Can't live without me huh? Ha, but in all seriousness probably was just a fight that went a little to far. Check for toxins. Do you have alcohol levels in the blood yet? Cause if he was near a bar..... "

" That's the thing, he was at the bar, but there's no blood. Like none in the body, at all. "

I pulled on my boots as he talked. There was something so not right with this case. I stood up and grabbed my old leather jacket yanking it on.

" Wait what? No that doesn't make any sense. Give me the address I'm coming. "

" It's your day off. No. We got this. "

Now he was just being an ass... I already had my gun and badge on me so no way in hell was I not going.

" Clearly you don't. Address. Now. "

" Damn Claire you're stubborn. Fine. 1309 Tipsy Angel Bar in the old strip mall. "

" See you soon. "

I stuffed my phone into my pocket and headed for the door. Slamming it in the process.

It was the usual, area blocked off and confused cops standing around awkwardly. I could understand, you see a lot in New York... but a body missing all blood is downright creepy.

Jacob greeted me lifting the police tap for me.

" Welcome to creepy murder centeral. Today we have: Ashen Sanchez, 23, works at the Starbucks down the street. "

" Well damn. Hmm, Jacob? Time of death? "

I leaned down to look over the body. Pale as all hell and the body was wet, it had rained in the area. The clothes were soaked through. It looked like he'd spent the night in the alley.

" No time of death yet, but from the way you're looking at the body I'm guessing you think he's been here for a while. "

" Yeah... Can you, uh, check with the officers about his work, security cameras, the regular, you know? "

" Sure thing. I'll be back in a minute. "

I moved the neck slightly. It didn't feel broken but I'd have to wait for more information on that. He didn't seem to have been dragged, but there was no blood in sight. Where had it all gone? There was most definitely a sign of struggle. Trash cans knocked over - with blood on it. I called Jacob over to it and then the others came in for samples and fingerprints.

I turned back to the body, light now hitting the side. Two marks on the neck, two more on the shoulder and a slit at the base of the neck. Something was very wrong....

" Henderson! Come on we're leaving, got everything we need, unless you found something lets go! "

§§§§§

I fucked up, I shouldn't have left the body... Damnit of course they have her on the case. How could I be so stupid?! But she... God she's beautiful... I need to fix this before they get any further along with the investigation. I need my head back in the game. I'm not here to impress her. We could never, fuck, I need to stop.

I'll go tonight, destroy any evidence, they'll be stuck. I can hopefully fix this stupid mistake....
