Media has taken root in almost every part of society. Media brings attention to tragic events, problems in society and daily gossip. Media even brings attention to the problems within the media itself.
Situations and events are discussed daily over media. One of these largly controversial topics is bullying.
Many documentaries and articles have been been created to raise awareness for bullying inside and outside of todays schools. However, teen suicide rates have only continued to increase. This, however, is not for a lack of awareness nor failure of programs to stop these cases. In fact, it might be because of how much media attention is given to these topics.
If less attention was given to these cases, would teen suicide rates really continue to increase? Or would the idea of bullying and suicide slip out of teens minds and allow them to become a stronger person? If teens were not as aware of teen suicides due to bullying would suicide even register in their own minds to help escape their struggles?
Media has taken toll in every aspect of the next generation and although raising awareness for multiple causes is a great benefit, it may also be the exact reason why those situations, like teen suicide and bullying, are getting worse.
