Only Going to Break My Heart

I felt the persistent knocking at my door and I heard the voice of my very concerned brother calling my name. How could I explain why his newest band member caused the reaction I had? I can't tell him about that night. It would make him awkward around Dean and potentially cause a rift that I'm not willing to be the cause of.

"Cian, I'm fine, just go downstairs," I yelled back which caused him to stop knocking.

"Evie, I know you're not fine. What happened," He yelled through the door. My brother is too observant, always has been. I mentally sighed as I laid my head on my knees.

"Cian, I'm fine," I repeated. I heard him let out an exasperated sigh before walking away. Pulling my thoughts together I moved from the floor to the bed. Putting my headphones on, I let my music drown out my thoughts.

I awoke the next day and realized I had slept with my headphones on. Getting up I stared at myself in the mirror. I looked like Cian in a lot of ways. I had the same color hair, only longer and straighter, we shared the same lips and the same chin. However, we varied in many ways as well. I had smaller nose and hazel eyes instead of the striking blue like his. I was also on the shorter side. Walking away from the mirror I tiptoed to the shower to try and avoid Cian's questions. As mentioned before, my ninja skills need work. I heard someone yell my name and I whipped my head back to see one of Cian's bandmates. Thanking my lucky stars, it wasn't Dean I breathed a sigh of relief.

"It is Evie right?" I realized I hadn't replied to the boy standing in front of me. Blushing, I nodded.

"We didn't get a chance to properly introduce ourselves," He said while leaning against the wall.

"Clearly you already know who I am," I raised my eyebrow as he smiled at me.

"All I know is that your name is Evie, your Cian's sister, and you like to run away," He gave me a cheeky grin and I fought the urge to roll my eyes.

"What else is there to know?" I replied

"Well, for one, is your real name Evie?" He asked.

"No, but that's for me to know and for you to never find out," I smiled back at him.

"Feisty, aren't we?" He replied wiggling his eyebrows.

"Not for you," I walked past him into the bathroom. Stopping in the doorway I turned back to him. "You may not want to tell Cian you're hitting on his little sister," I advised him then I shut the door. I couldn't help but smile at his antics. Unsure of what to think of him, I took my shower, blow-dried my hair, and went back to my room. I heard cars leaving a few hours later, so I assumed it was safe to go downstairs. Entering the kitchen, I saw Cian on his laptop. He smiled at me and I smiled back.

"Enjoy your sleepover?" I questioned sitting beside him.

"Wasn't a sleepover, it was a get together," He replied causing me to laugh.

"Whatever you say," I laughed again. "Hey, I got a question,"

"Shoot," He replied.

"Who is the one with dark hair, kind of shorter than the others?" I questioned thinking back to the boy who stopped me on my way to the shower.

"Why?" He questioned raising his eyebrow. I shrugged and he sighed. "His name is Dayl, but do not get any ideas!" I rolled my eyes.

"I was just asking," I replied laughing.

He shook his head and walked into the living room. I went to follow him, but stopped when I saw Dean sitting on the couch. He was watching TV and Cian went to join him.

"Do you have anywhere to be today?" Cian asked me and I pulled my gaze away from Dean.

"I was going to go hang out with Sam today, but I have to figure out what he is doing," I replied. Dean glanced my way, but avoided eye contact with me.

"Tell him I said hey if you do," He replied and I nodded. I began to walk away, but Cian stopped me. "Why don't you join us? "

I racked my brain trying to think of a reason why I couldn't but my mind went blank. I just nodded and sat as far away from Dean as possible without looking at him. We sat watching TV for a few minutes until Cian decided he had to go the bathroom. I almost begged him to stay, but not wanting to cause a scene, I kept my mouth shut. I kept my eyes on the TV, until Dean cleared his throat.

"So, do you remember me?" He questioned and I turned my head to look at him. He seemed almost nervous and I just nodded. He sighed and ran his hand through his hair.

"You can't tell Cian!" He begged and I just nodded.

"There isn't much to tell," I replied. "Frankly, I'm surprised you remember me,"

He stared at me with an unreadable expression. I tore my eyes away from him, but he continued to stare.

"It doesn't matter, it was a year ago," I said. "It's not like it was a big thing"

"True, I just don't want it to ruin Cian and I getting along," He replied and I nodded my head.

"I said I wouldn't say anything, and I keep my promises. I don't leave people sitting alone in a bar for three hours." I replied, still bitter from the experience. He grimaced.

"About that..." He went to explain but I stopped him with my hand. Standing up I began to walk upstairs

"It's fine, like you said, you were only going to break my heart anyway." I ran upstairs leaving him. I laid down on my bed and began to text my best friend, Sam.

Me: Hey, you doing anything today?

Sam: Finally, I feel like we haven't spoken in ages! You want to go to the movies?

Me: That sounds fun, I can't wait till tell you about what has happened in the last couple days!

Sam: Can't wait! Pick you up around 5?

Me: I'll be waiting!

I went to my closet and picked out an outfit. Fixing myself up a little bit, I went downstairs to see Cian and Dean still watching TV.

"Cian, Sam is picking me up around five to go out," I sat down next to Cian.

"Alright, be home by 10," He replied and I rolled my eyes.

"Cian, I'm 19," I laughed and this time he rolled his eyes. "Cian, it's just Sam and I!"

"I know, that's why I'm concerned. Last time you two hung out together, you ended up in a cop car!" He replied.

"To be fair, I wasn't the one who got arrested, it was Sam. Also, I was I supposed to know that you couldn't trespass on that field?" I replied laughing. He just rolled his eyes again.

"Maybe by the trespassing sign? And the only reason you didn't get arrested is because the commissioner loves you." He replied and I laughed. It was true, the commissioner does love me. Probably should mention the commissioner is Sam's dad and the only reason Sam was arrested was to teach him a lesson and he didn't actually go to jail. I heard a honk and saw Sam's car outside.

"Alright, love you Cian!" I walked out purposely ignoring Dean. I walked to Sam's car and hopped in. Sam peeled out and I couldn't wait to tell him all that had happened.
