It was the day that Phillip got shot. Eliza was at his side, she was crying. Eliza's son is dying, and on top of that, her husband cheated on her. Eliza had tears forming, she wanted to stay strong.
"Un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept." Eliza said "Un, deux, trois..." Phillip said, then died "Huit, neuf." Eliza said while crying "Sept, huit, neuf..." Eliza cried harder, she whipped her tears and left
The day after and everyday after that were hard on the Hamilton family, especially Eliza. Everyday when Eliza would pass by Alexander, she would ignore him. Eliza was angry at Alexander, for it was his fault that Phillip is dead, he told him to do the duel.
Eliza hasn't been spending much time with her family, only for brief moments, including meals and helping with their homework. Alexander on the other hand was doing most of the work, cooking, cleaning, and still doing his work. Eliza would only cook and clean when Alexander wasn't at the house. Eliza would often have flashbacks of her and Phillip practicing piano and French, she would then have tears stream down. Often Angelica, her daughter, would try to help her. It was Sunday, Alexander went to see Eliza in her room,
"I'm taking the kids to church, would you like to come." Alexander asked "No, no I wouldn't." Eliza said turning around "Why?" Alexander asked "You really want to know why?" Eliza asked with her tone loud "You cheated on me with Maria Reynolds! You are the cause of our sons death, you really think I want to go to church-" Eliza yelled, but was interrupted by Angelica walking in "Oh, I'm sorry, I'll leave." Angelica said starting to leave "No, you are fine dear, your father was just leaving." Eliza said pointing at the door
Alexander left and took the kids to church, Alexander looked sad, Angelica must've seen him,
"What's wrong father?" Angelica said, holding his hand "It's nothing, just, grown up stuff..." Alexander said
Angelica simply nodded. When the ceremony began Alexander cried silently. When Alexander came to the cross of the door, he stood for a couple minutes and then got on his knees and tried to pray. He wanted to pray about his wife Eliza for forgiveness, or about Phillip, but he just couldn't. He tried his hardest, and he just said everything in his head, and asked for forgiveness.
That evening Alexander, Eliza, and their kids all sat down at the table, and that hasn't been happening lately. It was quiet, too quiet, usually at dinner, they would talk about their school work. That night was different, it was awkward, Angelica then attempted to start a conversation,
"So, father how is work?" She asked "The same as always..." Alexander said
It was silent again... After the kids were in bed, Eliza sat on the sofa in front of the fireplace, remembering of how Alexander would sit down on it then she would sit with him and they would hold hands. A tear streamed down, she wiped it quickly, hoping nobody saw it. Someone did,
"Mother? Are you alright?" Her other daughter Elizabeth asked "Yes dear, you need to go back to bed." Eliza said getting up and kissing her goodnight, then sent her off
Eliza went back to the sofa, but laid down this time. Alexander was in his office, and he decided to clean up the dining room table. He went out and saw Eliza laying down,
"Hello Eliza..." Alexander said
Eliza got up fast
"Oh, hello, Alexander." She said, then headed towards her room, Alexander then grabbed her arm and Eliza hit it "No, you don't touch me." Eliza said with her voice firm "Can I talk to you, please?" Alexander pleaded
"No." Eliza said starting to leave again, Alexander took her hand and led her to the couch and sat her down "Look, I made a mistake, could you forgive me?" Alexander asked "No." Eliza said scooting away from him "I've pleaded for forgiveness for a long time now..." Alexander said to himself, Eliza heard
"And? You cheated on my by bringing a girl, that's not me, into our bed! You are the reason that Phillip isn't here right now, you told him to go to the duel. We've had this conversation one, too many times. By Alexander." Eliza said getting up, but Alexander sat her down again
"I know I don't deserve you Eliza..." Alexander said "But hear me out, if I could replace his death, and have me die instead, he would be here right now. You would smile." Alexander said "You're really asking me to forgive you?" Eliza asked
"I'm not afraid, I know the girl that I married. If I could die instead of Phillip dying, he'd be standing here right now. You would smile and not flinch every time that I touch you." Alexander looked down "What you did was really, stupid." Eliza said moving his chin upward
"I know, and I don't pretend to know, the challenges we're facing, and there is no replacing what we've lost, and I'll give you some time and space." Alexander said "Look, what you did was really stupid, but I've done stupid things also, and you forgave me, so for that, I forgive you." Eliza said holding Alexander's hands
Alexander hugged Eliza tightly, he missed her hugs, he cried onto his shoulders.
"I love you so much, don't let anyone or anything prove that wrong." Alexander said staring into her beautiful eyes "I love you too Alexander, even if I don't show it." Eliza said, she then kissed his forehead.
The next morning while the kids were at school, Alexander and Eliza went on a morning walk. They were in a park and they held hands. Everyone saw and most of the people were whispering.
"Forgiveness?" A person asked the other "Could you imagine?" The other person asked them
Alexander and Eliza were walking holding hands. Eliza's older sister Angelica saw them.
"They're going through the unimaginable." She said
