Ava’s POV

Taking a walk was a stupid idea, my stomach hurt really badly.

“You okay, Aves?” Cameron asked as he sat me down on the couch.  I didn’t really want to talk, in fear of my voice giving me away, so I just nodded.

“Mmhmm, sure you are.” Audrey said, plopping on the couch next to me, and rolling her eyes.

“Shut it, Audrey.” I said through clenched teeth.  Eventually the pain dulled enough for me to relax and I slumped back into the pillows, letting out a sigh.

“Dad?” I asked as he walked in the room.

“Yes?” he said, looking at me quizzically.

“Have you ever been shot?”

“Surprisingly, no.  I’ve been shot at, but never actually hit.  Why are you asking?”

“I just want to know when it won’t hurt so much.”

“Give it another week.  By then it should just be sore.”
”I thought you said you’ve never been shot?” I said, raising my eyebrows at him.

“Honey, I’m a police officer.  I’ve had friends who have been shot, that’s just what they told me when I visited them.” One thing I got from my dad was a good memory, it’s not photographic, but we can both recall things that have happened years ago.

“Great……so no school for another week.” I sighed angrily, I was going to have so much make up homework.

“It’s getting late, Aves.  Cooper and I have to go.” Cameron said, looking at the clock and giving me a gentle hug.

“Bye” I answered reluctantly as they left.

Cameron’s POV

I got to my car and dug around in my pocket for the keys when my phone started ringing, Cooper huffed in annoyance, it was pretty cold.  I shot him an apologetic look and answered my phone.

“Hello?” I said absentmindedly, still looking for my keys.

“Hello, Cameron, this is John.” That was weird, why was my boss calling me?

“Hi” I said, still looking for my keys.  Where were they?

“I need you to come down to my office.  There is a…..problem that we need to discuss.” He said.

“Okay…? When do you want me to come in?” I asked, finally finding my keys and unlocking the door, Cooper quickly got in.

“Now, please.”

“But, sir. It’s 9:30!” I exclaimed, looking at the clock in my car.

“I don’t care” He snapped moodily “We need to discuss it now.” He said, sounding less irritated.

“Alright…I was just driving my friend home.  I’ll be there in twenty minutes.” I said, puling out of the driveway.

“That’s fine.  Goodbye” he said, ending the call.

“What was that about?” Cooper asked

“I have no clue” I mumbled “Our boss said he wants to see me, and he didn’t sound happy.” I said.  I had a feeling of what is was going to be about, but I desperately hoped I was wrong.

“Come in, Mr. Ross.” My boss said, gesturing to one of the chairs in his office.  This whole conversation reminded me of when I was in high school and getting in trouble.

“What is this about, sir?” I asked, rubbing my eyes.  This had been an extremely long day, I was exhausted and just wanted to sleep.

“How are your students, Mr. Ross? Any complaints, hmm?” He said, leaning foreword in his chair, his hand in a fist under his chin.
”No, none at all, sir” I said confidently, but inside all I could think was holy sh** he knew!  “I mean, some students don’t turn in any work no matter how much I remind them, but that’s normal, right?” I shrugged, trying not to let my panic show.

“I have noticed,” He said, clicking something on his computer “that one of your students, Ava Williams, is doing quite well in your class. She has what? A 91% in the class?” he said, looking at me through his black rimmed glasses.

“Yeah, so?” I said

“Stop avoiding the situation!” he cried angrily, throwing his hands up in the air.

“I don’t even know what the situation is, sir.” I said, exasperated and threw my arms up in the air and leaned back, rubbing my eyes.

“Are you, or are you not in a relationship with Miss Williams?!” I gaped at him Deny everything!!

“Sir! How could you even think that?” I said, my heart racing.  He said nothing and just slid a piece of paper across the desk to me. It was a picture.  A picture of Ava and I. I looked at him and gulped.

“Sir, I…”
