Ava’s POV
“So….don’t you think you should’ve let him explain?” Audrey asked, nervously playing with her fingers as we walked to class. I stopped and looked at her in shock.
“Wait….what?!” I asked her, my jaw dropped. “Why would you even suggest that?”
“Well…it’s just……you said yourself that you didn’t believe his reason for breaking up with you…..so…..listen to his reason…..you might be surprised.”
“Audrey….I just…..can’t. I need time.”
“Okay…but you really should listen to his side. And soon.” She said when we got to class. I really did want to listen to him, it just seemed like there was something stopping me. The next two periods were soon over and we were walking to the parking lot when I felt someone grab me by the waist and lift me up. I was going to scream but the person that lifted me up put their hand over my mouth.
“Relax, Ava.” Cooper said chuckling and removed his hand.
“Well excuse me for freaking out. The last time I was grabbed, I ended up getting shot.” I huffed and crossed my arms. “Where exactly are you taking me?”
“Cammmrmm” he mumbled.
“Where?”
“Cammnsrmm”
“Huh?”
“Oh my gosh! We’re going to Mr. Ross’ room!” Audrey yelled in frustration and flung her arms up in the air once Cooper reached his destination. He entered the room and put me down, going over to stand in front of the door. I tried running anyways, and Cooper grabbed me again.
“Just…please hear him out?” Cooper pleaded.
“Fine” I sighed and crossed my arms, turning to Mr. Ross.
“Mr. Green! I have a question for you” Audrey said
“What is it?”
“Umm….lets go outside.” She said
“Can’t you just ask me in here?” Cooper asked, completely oblivious to the fact Audrey was trying to give us some privacy. I shot her a grateful look and she just waved dismissively, dragging Cooper out the door.
“Talk. I’m listening.” I said sadly. All of my anger was gone, I just felt defeated.
“Listen, Ava” he said, putting a hand on my shoulder, I flinched back and he dropped his hand, looking wounded. “I never told you the real reason why I broke it off.” He said, staring at a spot on the floor.
“So you don’t think I’m too immature?” I asked.
“No” he mumbled “The principal found out about us and told me to break it off, because he didn’t want to fire me or expel you.” That explains so much.
“I completely understand, Mr. Ross.” I said
“Does this mean I’m forgiven?” He asked hopefully.
“For breaking up with me? Yes. For lying to me? Not quite yet. Why did you lie and avoid me, Cameron?”
“I thought you’d be mad if I told you the real reason.” He mumbled.
“Ok, so you thought I’d be mad at you for breaking up because of your boss, my principal, and to fix that, you lie?” I said, nodding. “What the he** were you thinking, Cameron?” I shouted, completely frustrated with him.
“I’m so sorry, Ava…I never meant to hurt you.” He said genuinely “Can you ever forgive me?”
“Of course I forgive you, Cameron” I sighed and his eyes lit up “But that doesn’t mean I’m not still upset with you.” I really was a reasonable person, it just hurt that he thought he had to lie to me.
“Are you crying?”
“No” I muttered and wiped at my eyes, I was pulled into a hug. I struggled for a few moments before giving in and melting into it.
“I’m still upset with you, you know” I mumbled into his shirt. “Umm…is the door locked?” I asked.
“No.” he said and I pulled away quickly.
“Why’d you do that?” he asked, sounding sad.
“Because, what happens if the principal walked in right now? We’d be in heaps of trouble.”
“Oh….you’re probably right.”
“I saw hugging!” Audrey yelled, flinging the door open “Does this mean everything’s back to normal?” she asked
“Not quite. I’m still upset that he lied to me, but he’s forgiven.” I told her. She smiled and then walked up to Cameron.
“Listen up, buddy. If you EVER hurt her again….I will take Sheriff Williams’ gun and shoot you myself. Got it?” she growled and poked his chest. What is it with my family (yes, I consider Audrey my sister) and threatening Cameron with guns? She doesn't even know how to shoot one!
“Y-yes” Cameron nodded, nervously. I don’t blame him; Audrey can be scary when she wants to be.
“Good!” she grinned brightly and then skipped over to me.
“Uh…” Cameron said, scratching the back of his neck in confusion of Audrey major mood change. “Is she always like that?” Cameron whispered to me and I nodded.
“That’s just Audrey. You’ll get used to it.” I whispered back.
“I was wondering, does this mean I’m getting another chance?” Cameron asked hopefully.
“Yes, but you’re on thin ice, mister” I nodded.
“Thank you, Aves! I promise, I will make it up to you!” He said, grinning from ear to ear and jumping up and down. I giggled and he pulled me into another hug.
