“I can’t do this; they’re going to hate me.” I said, shaking my head and turning on my heel. We were standing on Cam’s front porch; I knew his family was here, I saw their cars.
“Aves, you need to relax.” Cameron said, grabbing me gently by the shoulders and spinning me around so I was looking at the front door. “They’re going to love you.”
“You don’t know that.”
“Yeah, I do.”
“No, you’re biased.”
“Not much. Now, come on.” He said opening the door and ushering me in.
“Cameron!” I heard someone yell and a girl who looked exactly like Cameron practically tackled him.
“Who’s this?” She asked when she saw me. She sounded completely uninterested.
“Naveah, this is my girlfriend, Ava. Ava, this is my twin Naveah.” That explains it.
“Hi, Ava.” Naveah said, smiling at me. It looked forced, and when Cameron wasn’t looking, she shot me a look that said I don’t like you, nor do I approve of you. “So, how did you two meet?”
“She’s…well, she’s uh- kind of…my student.” Cameron said uncomfortably, ribbing the back of his neck and laughing awkwardly.
“Cameron Ross!” Naveah shrieked, slapping him upside the head.
“Geez, woman!” Cameron cried. “What was that for?!”
“You’re an idiot.” She muttered. I just stared at them in amusement.
“Cameron? Is that you?” I heard a woman ask from the kitchen.
“Yeah, mom. We’re in here.” Cameron yelled and a plump woman with black hair and grey-blue eyes came into the living room, followed by a man who looked almost exactly like Cam and his sister; they both looked to be in their late forties.
“Is this Ava? I’ve heard so much about you!” She gushed.
“Hello.” I said shyly.
“Don’t be shy, we’re all friends here.” The man said boisterously and Cameron groaned.
“Dad…”
“What? It’s not like I suggested we look at baby pictures of you!” He said, and a sheepish look crossed his face.
“What a good idea!” His mom grinned mischievously and ran out of the room, chuckling to herself.
“Dad!” Cameron yelled, face palming himself.
“Whoops, heh heh. Sorry.” His dad said.
“Ava, this is my dad, Henry. Dad, this is my girlfriend, Ava.” Cameron muttered, completely embarrassed.
“Hi, Ava!” Henry said, shaking my hand enthusiastically.
“Hi.” I laughed.
“So, how did you two meet?” He asked.
“She’s his student.” Naveah hissed angrily. What was her problem?
“Here we are!” Cameron’s mom announced, carrying a stack of what looked like photo albums. “I’m Leslie, the mom of these two over there.” She said, jutting her thumb in the direction of her two children.
“Guess what, Leslie; Ava here is one of Cameron’s students.” Henry said, he looked like he wasn’t sure if he should approve or not.
“Ooh, a forbidden relationship. Now that’s romantic.” She grinned, looking through the photo albums. “Look! It’s Cameron in the bathtub!” She cried, pointing to the picture.
