Drippin' in Finesse

Oh, don't we look good together?
There's a reason why they watch all night long
Yeah, know we'll turn heads forever
So tonight I'm gonna show you off

People were frequently looking in our direction. I was quite uneasy with it, but I still can't find mom and dad in this sea of crowd.

The music playing on the background isn't on my playlist, but I know it's Bruno Mar's Finesse. I wonder how the room's music had that, but people were kind of enjoying it nevertheless.

The heart was still beating erratically. I can't even look at him in the eye. I'm trying to look at other people's tables, but if they'd notice my stare, I'm diverting it to another direction.

"You'll hurt your neck if you'd keep doing that." He said casually as if we're friends!

"It's none of your business." I told him off.

He chuckled at me. Then his chinky eyes were driving me again to look at him. He's irresistibly cute when he does that. Fudge!

"People are giving me weird looks to have a table mate who's desperately trying not to look at me. Am I an eyesore for you?"

His smile was giving me chills.

  Blame it on my confidence
Oh, blame it on your measurements
Shut that shit down on sight
That's right

Right, I'll blame it on his fucking confidence. He's smirking right now as he was waiting for my answer.

No, Harry. You're not an eyesore. You are totally a view, but I won't tell you that. Why? Because you're playful when it comes to me. What more if you'd knew about the secret I've been hiding to myself for almost 3 years?

I'd be shattered if you'd knew about it, because I know you're going to hurt me in the end when the game will get you bored.

"I wish Mark's here." I murmured to myself, but I think he heard me.

His expression changed. His aura was telling me he looked dangerous. Was that a wrong move?

Wala sa oras ay napalunok ako. Did I insulted him?

But all my thoughts were washed off when the sight of a pretty girl went up to our table.

"Hi Mia!" Masiglang bati sakin ni Trixie.

I smiled at her too, but she quickly diverted her eyes to Harry who looks so pissed. His eyebrows were furrowed as he was looking directly at the utensils on the table.

Is he contemplating on throwing those numerous knives at my face? Oh my gosh.

Ngunit isang marahan na haplos ang iginawad ni Trixie sa matipunong braso ni Harry at napalingon rin siya dito.

His expression changed into something. Did his eyes softened?

Naninikip ang dibdib ko habang pinapanood silang nag uusap. They looked so good together that I felt so insecure with myself.

  When I'm walkin' with you
I watch the whole room change
Baby, that's what you do

Now, my whole world changed when they got away from our table. He took the chair next to Trixie's at their table while I was left there all alone in that table.

Thankfully, bumalik narin sila mommy at daddy sa table namin. They were wearing these smiles. They explained to me that they saw numerous classmates they've had when they were still in highschool and college.

Well, that explains a lot. Tita Leanne and mom were bestfriends, so most probably, they have mutual friends in here.

Later, the crowd cheered when the birthday celebrant was introduced to the public. They had a dramatic entrance along with her husband, tita Ferdinand.

Sometimes, I'm wondering why tito Ferdinand and my dad have almost the same names and mom and tita Leanne really had them.

Sabi nila, they were like fictional characters in books where my mom was the supportive friend of tita Leanne and tito Ferdinand's love story. Mom eventually had tito Ferdinand's bestfriend which is my dad today.

They were the most popular in their school before, and so was tito Ferdinand who was the star player in their campus. Harry actually got most of his features from his dad. But his dad keeps on insisting that Harry is beyond what he actually was before.

Harry is the guy who has it all. Intelligence, sports, an own set of friend who's on the same level as him, riches, fame and girls.

I just can't guarantee his attitude.

Halos hindi na ako makasabay sa mga pangyayari at tanging ang pagkain lamang ang binigyan ko ng pansin. Sometimes, napapatingin ako kung anung ginagawa niya, but just like the usual, entertaining the guests and maybe the girl who's destined for him to have?

 Damn, I sound so bitter.

Mom and dad were on the center, all with the couples dancing happily. They weren't given the spotlight just like how tita Leanne and tito Ferdinand has, but they looked so special together.

Maybe I should be like mom and dad too. Even if the spotlight isn't on me, the one I should be with should make me feel as if I am his everything. The limelight isn't the one I should be looking into. It should be the feeling I'm mixing when I'm with him.

"Why does this girl looks so sad? Huh?"

Napalingon ako sa boses na mapanuya. He was wearing his smile as I turned to him. Instantly, I felt relieved that I'm not alone in this room. That I still have someone I can run into these times.

"Shit ka Mark, napakalate mo." Pabiro kong hinampas ang balikat niya.

Nakaupo parin ako sa silya habang nakahilig siya pababa sakin para magkarinigan kami.

"So do you want to have a dance with me?" Alok niya sakin.

"I don't know how."

I felt frustrated about that fact, but when he held my hand, I knew that he wasn't going to make me fall and disappointed. Therefore I gave him my permission.

He smiled genuinely at me, then walked our way to the dance floor.

From my peripheral vision, I saw how some girls were looking at us. Well, we can blame that on Mark's finesse too.

He looked down, then chuckled at me with his mesmerized eyes.

"You're wearing sneakers with this white cocktail dress?" He asked like my outfit looked so ridiculous.

"Let's just shut up and dance okay?" Iritado kong tugon ngunit ngumisi lamang siya.

"You're commanding me as if you knew how to do it."

"Then show me the ropes, because I'm a fast learner you know." I winked at him, and he started striding from left to right as his arms were in my hand and waist.

But later, as I eventually knew how to do it, my eyes flew across Mark's shoulder and my smile gradually wore off.

He was standing there looking so intense as he was sipping on his wine glass. The other side of his face was covered with darkness, and the other with the light.

He looked like he was ready to kill someone with that face, that Trixie looked so awkward beside him.
