Chapter Three
Arabelle stared at Lexiannah, shock clear on her face. Had she heard that wrong? Why would Lexiannah, her sister's enemy, say that she deserved to be saved? Arabella knew that she didn't. No one had tried to save her before, not even her brother or sister. Cassandra avoided her, taking after their father, and insulted her every time they were in the same room. She always found a new way to make Arabella look down on herself, that she was nothing but a waste of space. Legolas ignored her, as if she was a problem that would soon go away. Her people despised her because of who she was, the daughter the King and his now deceased Mistress. The illegitimate child. A bastard. She was constantly reminded of how she was an abomination, a disgrace of their kind. The only person who didn't agree completely was Iovis, her master. Iovis taught her how to handle a sword, daggers, a bow, any weapon she wished to learn how to use. He respected her because she is one of the best fighters in the kingdom, though not many knew that. While he respected her, though, he was still hesitant to actually like her on a personal level.
Arabella took a deep breath and shook the thoughts away, looking up into Lexiannah's eyes. "Why do you say that I deserve to be saved when my own kind wishes I were dead?" she asked, voice quiet.
Lexiannah's heart broke at the look of pain in the other girl's eyes. "Because your strong. Your people are idiots for turning you away. The truth is, they fear you. Hybrids are stronger than pure-bloods because they have all the strengths, but none of the weaknesses. You have advantages that they don't. You could wipe them out easily. They're scared that if they treat you like a princess, that if you're raised knowing your true potential, that you will overthrow the throne." The Veela Princess knew this was true, not to mention it was a topic that was constantly being spoken about among her own people.
Arabella stared, gaping in disbelief. "Y-you...what? But I've always been told that I was weak! Worthless. Useless." her voice got quieter.
Lexiannah nodded. "That's because they know how powerful you are."
Arabella shook her head, unsure if she wanted to believe the Veela. Then she started to think about it. She could turn into a snow leopard, a dangerous animal. She had heightened senses, speed, amazing reflexes. Her weapon and fighting skills were amazing. And... she had ice and snow powers. She was an Ice Elf, which were rare. No one knew that she was an Ice Elf, not even Iovis. They all assumed she was powerless.
Arabella sucked in a breath, looking up at Lexiannah with wide eyes. "I'm powerful." she whispered.
Lexiannah nodded. "That you are. It's time you start being the true you. Let your inner self shine."
Arabella eyed her suspiciously. "Why are you helping me?"
"Because I want to help you. I may hate your sister, but you are not her. And my mother has been plotting a way to kidnap you. She absolutely despises the way your being treated."
"What about you? You could have waited for your mother to kidnap me. But you sought me out on your own. You were searching for me in the forest."
Lexiannah blinked, unsure if she wanted to respond. After a moment she sighed. It would have to be revealed sooner or later. "You're one of my Potential Mates."
Arabella let out a choked gasp. "What?! How?!"
Lexiannah shrugged. "If you release your true form, your senses will most likely tell you that I am a Potential to you, too."
Arabella hesitated for a moment before she unclasped her bracelet, the glamour immediately dropping. Spotted white and black leopard ears replaced her human ears, her pupils became slits, and the fur pattern on a snow leopard's coat showed on her skin. Lexiannah stared, transfixed, while the other reached out with her senses. Arabella's inner leopard purred with happiness at being near a Potential Mate. Arabella promptly feinted.
