"Go on then, tell me why there is blood over the floor of my office." William said in a matter of fact way that made the two men almost go rigid with fear.

"My...my wife, Casey, has been acting suspiciously recently and it was playing on my mind quite badly." David began, stuttering at the start as if he was unsure of what to say.

"She didn't even love you anymore, you pathetic little son of a..."The other man interjected quickly, lunging towards David at alarmingly rapid rate in an attempt to inflict more damage to him.

William tripped him over with the tip of his finely polished leather shoe before he could even touch him. Bending over the violent male, William whispered into his ear, mimicking a tone that he had only had to use once many years previous," I don't appreciate your behaviour in my office, if you say another word until it's your turn to speak, I will be calling the police for your attempted assault of my colleague here. Do you understand me?" William was hastily met with a nod.

He then continued, raising his voice so everyone could hear, "Now we've had a little chat, can you allow David to speak? I'd really like to know what happened."

David continued, occasionally making side wards glances towards his wife, "I was planning to confront her soon about this, so we could discuss it diplomatically and honestly. I wanted talk about it as adults but she didn't, she stormed into this very office with her 'lover' and told me was going to leave me. She then added an aside comment about me that I shall not repeat, this angered me. I never hit her. Then lover boy Peter steps in, trying to intimidate me by calling me a 'bad husband' before deciding to use his fist instead of his brain. Then you walked in, becoming at witness to this atrocity."

William cleared his throat and thought for a moment,"Right then Peter, I think it is time for you and Casey to leave, collect your belongings and never cross mine or David's paths again."

The two dishonest individuals scurried out of the office, Casey yelled in the distance,"Dave, your paying for the divorce." The doors slammed, they entered a car and sped off, leaving tyre marks on the ground and marks on David's heart.

David went over to the window, looking at them before returning to his desk, he clutched is head between his hands and sobbed softly to himself. He'd lost everything. William could really sympathise with him, despite the fact that he himself had never had a wife. For the first time in a long time, William drew a chair to his desk and began to display his inner feelings.

"David, I know that your going through a rough time. I just wanted to let you know that myself and the rest of the staff are here you at anytime." Mutters of agreement backed up his statement well. William then scribbled down his phone number on a piece of paper, adding a message in his cursive handwriting:

If you have any concerns, call me. Your boss, Mr Wilson.

"HEY BOSS, IT'S NICE TO KNOW THAT YOU'VE GOT A HEART BEHIND THAT FROWN." Boomed a familiar voice, completely ruining that mood.

David was extremely quite for the rest of the working day, William silently commended him for even remaining in work for the rest of the day. Given his circumstances, it showed how silently brave David was. It was clear that he would, in the end, be alright.

By the end of Tuesday, William was relieved to go home, it was a tough days for him. Thankfully, he had to go early to pick up Clare from school, which superiors(the company CEO, who held a constant from and her fiancé) were absolutely fine with given the circumstance. She was happy and chattered on about what she learned and how she won a sweet in a quiz to test her on the numbers 1 to 10. This was the silver lining in the cloud, he was proud of her and he told her so. This gained him a massive smile in return. However, he was still worried.

It wasn't just work that bothered him. He was also concerned about Ann's future, she was helpless without him. He held a moral duty to protect her from her vile husband, she had a broken leg and by now it was most likely that he had drove off into the sunset, leaving her with an unknowing child.

William sighed to himself throughout that relatively short journey. Clare would have to learn some tough truths about why her dad had left her. He glanced up towards the mirror, she was watching a dog and his owner trot down the sidewalk. It was so peaceful. That made it exceptionally hard for him.

Innocence is lost at such a tender age, then we become apathetic and bored with life.

We become jaded.
