________
Two student corpses had grabbed ahold of the blonde, whose name I knew was Miranda. The corpses were in a bloody mess and caused me to be completely unsure of they true identity.
One of them was a male who had one side of his face torn off, his white skull, disgustingly white, showing, his teeth slightly missing and an eye gone from his socket. He was bitten on his left shoulder, causing his left side of the body to be dark and bloody. His skin was shriveled and tight as he moaned in what seemed to be a twisted sound of delight as his raw hands pulled on Miranda's jeans.
The girl, too, was discombobulated, with her right arm completely limp and her neck twisted in an unnatural way. She had a sick grin on there face, her eyes puffed up and bulging out of her face, which were bloodshot, the pupils the same dull gray I had seen in the janitor's lifeless eyes.
"Jenna!" Miranda wails, still holding onto her friend, as Jenna stares at the monsters, bound to devour her friend. "We're best friends! You've gotta help me!" Miranda screams as Jenna continues to stare. Suddenly, the light reaches back to her eyes when she realizes her life is in danger.
The male corpse bites into Miranda's flesh as she desperately yells for Jenna, bright tears leaking out of her eyes.
"No," I hear Jenna mumble as the same word leaves my mouth soon after.
"NO!" Jenna screamed, strongly pulling away from Miranda's grasp. Miranda stares at her friend wide eyed as she realizes that Jenna had the intention of leaving her with the monsters. Finally, Jenna kicks hard at Miranda's hand until I hear a yet all too familiar crunch of breaking bones.
Life goes in slow motion as Miranda's eyes stare at her friend, betrayed, for the last time before dulling into dead eyes, as her grip on Jenna's hands weaken and let of all together, succumbing to the darkness of the undead monsters. Jenna gulps and turns to go find someone to help her, no longer worrying about Miranda, who was once her best friend. But fate does not allow it and the girl corpse reaches out, pulling Jenna into the same demise.
I continue to breathe heavily until I realize that it was only going to be minutes before they come to where I was, already and gradually increasing in number. With this in mind, I quickly scan the surrounding area and go into the room that had a large, wooden bolted door, quickly entering the musky room, shutting the door and locking it in place, without looking back once to see if the corpses were following.
I flick the lights on and smile with relief, glad to see that the room was for the janitors. The room was small but held tools that could come to use if I were to encounter an unfortunate corpse later in the future. That's what they were after all. The nonliving dead. IT spread like a disease, and if you were bitten, then it would be the end. The pandemic would affect anybody and everybody, and would easily destroy a town. A city even. I sigh in exhaustion and exasperation. What was I going to do? Where were the police? Or the special forces?!
I blink. With this thought, I grab my phone, punch in an emergency call to the police, and bring the earpiece to my face.
"Hello?" I ask breathlessly. It rings once. I shut my eyes and slump against the wall. Twice. I think about my mother. Three times. I think of Dad and his stressful job as an F.B.I. agent. My brother, who was at the middle school nearby. There is a click. "Hello?" I ask again, just as desperate as before, if not more.
