I opened my eyes very slowly, wondering where the heck I am. My whole body is in pain so much that it was kind of hard for me to get up from the floor right away. I tried moving my arms first and then my legs, they were cramped. As the disorientation was fading, I'm remembering the events that took place earlier . I was on the phone with Bert and he told me something that got me so scared that I lost consciousness. I sat up slowly holding on to my aching head, I need something for the pain. I think I still have some of those painkillers my brother gave me the last month when I had that accident.
I took a look around from where I was sitting. It is so dark. What time is it anyway? How long had I been out?
I got up and tried walking but it was hard, it was like having sea-legs all of a sudden. I sat on the nearest part of the couch and massaged my legs lightly just to get the circulation going. This headache is beginning to kill me. I need those pills now.
I mustered some courage to test my legs and I was relieved they were working a bit fine. Walking in zigzag like a drunk, I reached my night stand and found the pain prescription inside one of the drawers. I lay hold of about three pills on my hands and took them with some water from the bathroom faucet. I went back to crawl in my bed. I need some sleep after that ordeal. The whole place is in the dark except for the lamp in my night stand and before I doze off, I got a look at the time in the alarm clock blinking boldly at me. It said 7:30 pm.

Waking up this time was different, the pain was gone. I looked at the clock again, and this time it read 3:30 am. The room was very quiet and still dark. I'm parched, so I got up to get me a very cold drink from the kitchen.
Walking ever so slowly with my still wobbly sea-legs, I passed by the living room. My eyes are still adjusting to the dark and the good thing is that I knew my place so well that I don't have to worry bumping into something. The trip took longer and before I could find the switch to my kitchen lights, from the corner of my eyes, I kind of saw some slight movement coming from the couch in my living room. Was that the wind? Did I leave the balcony door open? But I remember that I have not opened them since yesterday morning. Then there it was again. A very slight movement and I could not make it out with this darkness. I ran fast towards the switch of my kitchen lights and the bright lights inside the kitchen somehow extended towards the living room. I looked at the couch again, and there was nothing there. I even went to the couch and checked all around the area but there's nothing.
It must have been the after effects of what happened earlier. I still could not understand how it happened. Was I just dreaming the whole thing with the intruder and John?
I need a long vacation. I was working too much that I did not realize I was stressing my self out.
I have decided to give my boss a week's notice for a month-long vacation. I guess I owe it to myself and I know the company will let me have it since I gave so much to the company that I almost put a hold of my life for it.
I went back to bed after checking the whole place one last time. I am still so tired even after that sleep.

A shadowy figure was standing very still at the foot of Lani's bed without her knowing. The figure was looking at her intently and started to touch her hair. She moved as if she felt that touch and the figure stopped and moved back. She sighed, maybe dreaming. The figure went back and sat on the bed near her, this time it was caressing her face.
