"I couldn't have dreamed you into existence because I didn't even know I needed you. You must have been sent to me." -Kamand Kojouri
<><><><><><><><>The rain drowns out the heavy sobbing coming from a bundled form sitting at the curb. His knees are pressed to his chest and his head is buried in his arms, encircled protectively around his shaking legs.
It was as if reality finally decided to hit him in the face. A harsh result is like being hit by a train. It continues to constrict his heart and stomach, fueling the sobs he continues to let out.
He doesn't want to show his friends this pitiful sight. He's known to be the strongest of the bunch and with this appearance, it will only effect everyone at the camp.
His slim fingers press hard against his skin. He tries to withhold his crying but it only increases in intensity.
The rain pouring down soaks his workout clothes. His dark hair is soaked; it would have been worse if it was still long. The cold rain chills him but it serves as more as a comfort to numb the storm being let out inside him.
If only he wasn't kind to people. If only he didn't runaway from home. If only his father didn't treat him like he didn't exist. If only his mother didn't die so young.
And why must his feelings be so conflicted with him in mind?
"Your mother composed that song? It's beautiful," smiles Jayden. This is the third time he's seen the man smile genuinely. It's a great start for someone who reluctantly wants to change.
He sets down his violin before taking a seat next to his new friend. The city lights shine brightly from the roof of the mall. It's a sight he's always loves.
It's only twice as great when you have a companion by your side to enjoy the view as well.
His violin... it's always with him but with it gone, it's like an empty hole the reminds him of all his problems he's been running away from.
His sobbing stops, replace with a quiet huff of laughter. Why of all the people he thinks about now, it's Jayden? It only proves the growing feelings he been denying since Jayden's charmed him.
"Christ! This tastes nasty!" chokes Jayden. He pushes the can of cooked soup away towards his host who then holds it. The stubborn man looks at him with a disgruntled expression. He only responds to Jayden's look with a smirk.
He shakes his head at the disgusted man, "It's the only food we have on us right now. No complaints here." He's starved before so Jayden can survive until he sucks up his distaste and eats.
"... Fine. Fine. Hand it over," Jayden glares at the wood of the table. The host's smirk turns into a smile when he gives the canned food back to Jayden.
It's as if the memories of their short time comforted the pain in his heart.
Their legs quickly carry them away from the thugs they've encountered in the back of the restaurant. He'll have to mark that area unsafe later.
Jayden breathes heavily next to him. He's surprised, seeing that they've only sprinted two miles. He would have thought the man to be more athletic with his build. Don't get him wrong, he's breathing as much as Jayden.
"They're gone right?" Jayden asks. His companion only nods. Jayden lets out a snicker, the first time he's ever done that near him. It is enough to surprise both of them.
They both end up in fits of laughter at their previous predicament.
"No more trips to that restaurant then?" Jayden says after calming from the laughing.
"No more until those men decide to not roam over there, unfortunately. Miss Witherspoon is going to be wondering where I went."
"Eh. I've gotten used to the food in cans. I blame you," Jayden huffs.
It's been five days since he's been rescued, since he's last saw Jayden. It's been four days since he's rejected Jayden's offer.
He does not like handouts. He's taken enough from the people close to him.
The streets around this part of the city are usually quiet but a lone car can be heard coming by. He doesn't bother to look up from his daze.
The sports car, a sleek black one, parks across the street from him. A door is heard opening then slamming shut. Footsteps splash in the tiny puddles made by the rain. The steps approach the man sitting at the curb.
The rain stops, or so he thought. Something shields him from the chilling water, which he discovers it to be an umbrella.
"Fletch..."
The voice belongs to a pair of soft eyes, a description the business man didn't have when they first met.
"Jay..."responds Fletcher, tightening his jaw.
Even though his sobbing halted, it streams out like a dam being punctured once more. Fletcher's shoulders shake as he tears his gaze away from the man standing before him. His face returns to his arms. What does he want? He thought Jayden's already given up on him.
Jayden looks shocked; he's never seen his short-term friend break into tears. He crouches down; the umbrella covers the both of them barely.
The business man's hand slides up an arm, pulling it away from Fletcher's curled form and revealing the side of his companion's face. His finger now dip to scoop up Fletcher's chin, gently forcing him to look up again.
Even though it's been a few days, it feels like months have passed since Jayden's seen Fletcher.
Jayden frowns, "How long have you been in the rain?"
Fletcher only answers with silence that only ticks off the CEO. The fingers are replaced with a hand that brushes against Fletcher's cheek.
"You made me worry," Jayden sighs. "When Zizi personally showed up at my work saying you've disappeared- Jesus Christ, Fletch- I was scared. I thought those thugs were after you again. Though, I'm surprised you showed up at the spot I first ran into-"
"You don't have to deal with me anymore, Jay!" interrupts Fletcher. "It's like how you always wanted when I first took you to camp. Live that luxurious life of yours." He grabs Jayden's hand to move it away from his face.
"But I can't ignore you."
"Why!?" That single word is what Fletcher continues to ask himself after everything that's happened.
Jayden persistently holds both of Fletcher's hands now. The umbrella is set down next to them, allowing the rain to drench them. Jayden's intense gaze traps Fletcher's as his fingers weave through the other's.
"You saved me, Fletcher."

A/N: Thanks for reading the Prologue! It's short but I want to show a glimpse of stuff before diving in further with more details. I'll be trying to write this like mad for the #JustWriteIt and I already have 3/4 of my chapter prompt done.
Tell me what you think! I'm usually terrible at writing all-romance stories.
Vote & Comment 👌Updates for Flip Me Around and Lady in Red will be slow but Flip Me Around is current top priority.
