Continuation from the last chapter

Xavier's P.O.V.

"XAVIER WILLIAMS, HOW COULD YOU MARRY WITHOUT ME KNOWING?!" Jason stormed into my office, his eyes blazing with betrayal.

Who told him? Arghhh.

"Hello to you too, Jason," I said dryly and turned back to my desk, dismissing his dramatic entrance.

"Mr. Brown, leave the documents on my desk. I'll read them later. Talk to my assistant on your way out about the payment details."

Mr. Brown gave a knowing nod before walking out, leaving me alone with my overreacting best friend.

Jason crossed his arms. "What the hell was that about?"

"I hired him to investigate my soon-to-be bride." My tone was casual, but I knew Jason wouldn't let this go so easily.

His brows shot up. "So, you're really getting married? And you didn't think to tell me?"

"Of course, I am," I replied smoothly. "I was going to tell you. But..." I trailed off, tilting my head. "Who told you?"

"Your mother, of course! She and my mom were catching up, and then—boom! She just casually drops the news that my best friend is getting married?" Jason threw his hands up. "What happened to us living our best lives?"

I sighed. "It's not that simple, Jason. If you were in my position, you'd understand."

Jason shook his head. "I just don't get it. You always end up in these situations. Gorgeous, rich women practically line up for you."

I smirked. "Then stop trying to figure it out. Just accept it."

Jason groaned. "Fine. But at least come out tonight—one last night of freedom before you sign your soul away."

"Can't. Dinner with her family."

He froze, eyes widening. "Oh God. It's happening already. I've lost you." He clutched his chest like he was in physical pain. "I'll always remember you, brother."

I rolled my eyes. "You're so dramatic."

Susan's P.O.V.

"You look absolutely breathtaking," my mother said, her eyes shining as she fussed over the folds of my dress for what felt like the hundredth time.

I exhaled slowly, offering her a small smile. "Thanks, Mom."

I was still mad at my parents, and they knew it. But here I was, standing before a mirror in a midnight blue gown that draped effortlessly over my frame, its fitted bodice accentuating my waist before flowing into a cascade of smooth satin. The off-shoulder sleeves rested delicately on my arms, leaving my collarbones bare. My long hair fell in soft, polished waves, and the sapphire earrings my mother insisted on shimmered under the warm lighting. A matching clutch sat in my hands—a carefully curated image of the perfect daughter.

She clapped her hands together, practically buzzing. "Oh! I bought a platinum ring for Xavier. You'll slide it onto his finger tonight."

I arched a brow, a smirk tugging at my lips. "In your dreams, Mom."

She gave me a pointed look. "You say that now, but just wait."

I snorted. "If he says yes." My tone was teasing, but a small part of me braced for impact.
