Adrian's P.O.V. (Surprise)

Chapter Two

Adrian's POV

It had been a month since I last saw Susan. Right now, I was in New Jersey, stuck dealing with company issues alongside my buddy Chen. We'd been working nonstop, trying to sort things out, but all I could think about was getting back to New York. Back to her.

I missed her more than I wanted to admit. And if I knew Susan, she probably missed me too. But she'd never say it outright—she wasn't the type. She had this effortless way of holding back, keeping her emotions in check, while I... I wasn't always so composed.

I still remembered the first time I met her. She was just sixteen, standing off to the side at my friend's party while her best friend was busy with her boyfriend. Most of the other girls had either drifted to the dance floor or were getting drunk with random guys, but not her. Not Susan. It wasn't that she wasn't asked—she was. But no one dared to push too far. The reason? Ryan Adams.

Ryan was the school's most popular jerk, and he had an obsessive crush on Susan. Everyone knew it, and no one wanted to get on his bad side. He wasn't at the party that night, but his shadow loomed over Susan like an unspoken warning. And yet, she didn't seem to care. She wasn't oblivious—she was just too composed to let it affect her.

I spotted her standing with a group of girls who eventually made their way to the dance floor, leaving her alone. She had a presence that was hard to ignore—elegant, poised, and completely in control. She wasn't drinking, and she wasn't interested in dancing with just anyone. That intrigued me.

I walked up to her, hands in my pockets. "Hey, you're Lisa's friend, right?"

She turned, her brown eyes sharp but curious. "Yeah. So?"

I smirked. "So, I was trying to start a conversation. I'm Adrian."

She studied me for a second before shaking my hand. "I know who you are. I'm Susan."

"I know who you are too." I leaned against the table beside her. "I didn't know you had such a dedicated fan club."

Her lips curled slightly. " What do you mean?"

I chuckled. "Ryan and half the school, apparently."

She exhaled softly, unimpressed. "That's not really my concern."

"No?"

She tilted her head, amusement flickering in her gaze. "Why would I waste my time thinking about something so meaningless?"

I grinned. "You've got an entire fan club, you know. Ryan's just the president."

She laughed, shaking her head. "Well, I didn't sign up for it."

I smirked. "Yeah, but they're still holding meetings."

"Then they're wasting their time," she said simply. "I decide who I give my attention to."

I didn't have a response to that—because she was right.

As we were walking she randomly asked me "Can I trust you with me address?"

"You already did" I replied.
