Romulus and Remus were twin brothers, born of Rhea Silva. Before the two were born, Numitor, king of Alba Longa, was thrown out of power by his brother, Amulius. Rhea Silva was forced into being a Vestal Virgin. She only had the twins because of Mars, god of war. When the two were born, Amulius had them abandoned. Left to die in the Tiber. Miraculously they didn't die. The river carried them to safety. A she-wolf suckled them. A woodpecker fed them. A shepherd and his spouse found and fostered them into man-hood as shepherds. They were still oblivious to their origins and were natural leaders. They soon discovered the truth and killed Amulius, restoring Numitor as king once again. But they didn't stay to inherit kingship. Instead they set out to find a new city. They disagreed on where the city should be built. They decided to determine the site through augury. Still getting nowhere, the two fought and Remus was killed. Romulus founded the city, naming it Rome, after himself. The city grew due to refugees. Usually male and unmarried. With the lack of women, Romulus launched a plan to abduct women from the Sabines. After a war the two cities came to an agreement, and the Sabines became a part of Rome.
