Days went by until the battle finally began. The war raged as shots flew by into soldiers of either Afghanistan or America.

Rashid ran, beads of sweat on his forehead, this was it, it's now or never. His M4 rifle gripped tightly with his firm hands.

"Time to defeat the enemy," he thought to himself.

Cries and screams of warriors rang through Jacob's ears. He fought long and hard, this is what he had trained for, every hour of every day.

Jacob was on the other half of the battle field, his AK-74 Rifle released several bullets per second, plunging them into the leg of some Afghani soldier.

That soldier was Rashid...Rashid Osman.

Rashid fell to the ground as blood flowed out of the open wound.

Another soldier fell to the ground with impact. His right leg covered in crimson red.

That soldier was Jacob.

The two stared across the combat field. As if God stopped time, for one minute everything moved at the pace of a snail.

Rashid looked over at Jacob, he stared right back into Rashid's eyes. Only to see a woman in her mid fifties, crying on the prayer met. He felt like he could almost hear her pleads to the Lord to help her son.

Rashid watched Jacob's weary eyes. He could almost picture what Jacob was thinking of. His beloved wife Kylie and beautiful child Alexis. Rashid imagined the three of them in the flat. Such a loving family. Jacob's eyes shown through with the image of his family.

Finally, what seemed like hours had now gone by. The smokey field was covered in bodies of dying soldiers, only a metre apart Jacob and Rashid didn't break the stare.

Until Jacob whispered "I thought you were a demon but your eyes tell another story."

"I was never the demon they said, I was really a brother." Rashid replied, his eyes blurring at the thought of his evil actions.

"If we are given another chance in this world, I don't think I could live with myself for causing harm to a mother," Jacob said through his clenched teeth. The wound was burning into him...

"If we are given another chance in this world, I don't think I could live with myself for causing pain to a wife and her daughter," Rashid whispered as he rolled over, the pain was unbearable.

"Oh my God! This is affliction is excruciating!" Jacob cried, he looked around watching a fellow soldier being shot to death. He closed his eyes tightly as the man fell to the ground. Dead.

Dragging himself across the field, he pulled Rashid along with him. They crept behind a cave, dropping their rifles to the ground. Rashid palmed his face, and began to sob.

"How can I orphan a child and widow a wife? What kind of heartless person am I?" he mourned, not expecting an answer.

"You are not heartless, I am. What would have happened to your mother? How would she survive?" Jacob replied as he patted Rashid on the back.

"To think this is a war zone and we are busy here calling truce," Rashid smiled.

He held out his hand and Jacob shake it.

"Life needs to be more like this, peaceful," Jacob said, looking around he laughed at his statement. The whole area was havoc.

They watched each other for a while, a strange sensation in the pits of their bellies as they both closed their eyes. They knew it was time, time to meet their Lord.

The dust below them felt cooling on the sweaty bodies. Their eyes closed, leading them into a sleep. An unwakeable one.

The gun shots fired, six in the chest of the American soldier. Six in the chest of the Afghani soldier.

That was it...
