you all are gonna hate me. Anyways the photo is of G-eazy I'm using him as a character, but he'll be going by the name of James. The title is a song by him, listen to it cause I really pulled pieces of this chapter from that.
Damon POV
By the time we'd gotten back to the house Josef was pacing while on the phone with a cigarette in his mouth. Niklaus was sitting with Caroline and Hope as they settled into relaxing for once.
"They found him? Is he alive?...Bloody hell. He's been missing for decades my mother won't believe it.... James?...Wow I didn't think I'd hear from you again. Yes she's okay...I know she misses you.... We'll see you soon." He hung up before wiping his eyes of any threatening tears. "Hey where's mom?"
"I'm not sure she ran off when we talked to her about me." Alexander sighed and sat down. "Did I hear right? James is alive?" His lips crossed into a smile before Josef nodded.
"Whose he?" I chimed in as I poured a glass of bourbon.
"He was turned by Erik and our mother taught him how to function back in the 1920s. She fell in love with him and they got married 1924... Well Augustine took her in what... The 40s? Well when she got out rumour has it he was killed when she was in their care. She looked for him, but finally had to give up." I felt my stomach sink, this changes everything. I sat down and released a bitter laugh. So it was true then, she didn't love me. She meant it.
"O... Well that's good news." I mumbled before looking up as Erika wandered in her hair a mess with leaves. The exhausted look on her face. Like a ghost she wandered right by all of us and into the house, probably to try and get some rest. Josef sighed softly and took another drag of his smoke before glancing at his watch.
"She will do better with him around. Though I won't tell her until he's physically here...I'm sorry Damon." I merely shrugged before laughing.
"I should have listened to her in the beginning. It's my own fault." Alexander grabbed my shoulder before giving it a squeeze.
"Dad... You got me." As funny as it felt it felt good. It felt good to have someone like a son. Niklaus cleared his throat looking at me before taking a sip of his whiskey.
"Dont think I'll be calling you step father ever. My mother's past is always going to be a mystery to me, but hopefully we can fill in some pieces with you Damon." His thoughts were cut short when this taller yet lean man walked in wearing a suit. Hands in his pockets and a devilish smirk on his lips. Vampires of the quarter all flocked to watch him, considering how young he was and very bold, yet Josef quickly embraced the man. Niklaus retracted his fangs before standing and slowly approaching them.
"You look like complete shit mate." Josef laughed slightly as did the other man whose voice even sounded raspy.
"Being locked in a cage can do that to someone after decades...Is....is she here?" He looked around as he took his glasses off and slowly walked to a chair, his strength was depleted as would any vampires if you'd been taken by Augustine.
" You're James?" Klaus mumbled walking over to the man and offering a hand to which was accepted. "I am her oldest son Niklaus." A smiled crossed James' features before he slowly nodded. Josef blurred off to retrieve his mother from upstairs.
"Erika always hoped you were alive...she said she could feel it. I'm glad I get to actually meet you." Alexander sat beside him assessing his health. He adjusted his tie before sighing.
"Hopefully she doesn't go smacking me in the bloody face like last time..." Niklaus gave a slight laugh watching Alexander.
"I can see they did to you what they did to mother. I don't think any of us have seen you this skinny." Elena walked out and sat beside me as did Bonnie and Stefan.
"With all the footsteps on the roof you would have thought Augustine was here...whose he?" Stefan sighed before rubbing his face.
"That is Erika's long lost husband." I laughed bitterly before looking to Elena. " You were right congratulations." My heightened hearing could sense her footsteps slowly walking from the living room. Once in sight her face turned cold as stone as she looked towards James. Her hair washed and frame hugged by a black strapless dress that flowed to the ground. They looked like two war prisoners meeting after years. Both had circles under their eyes that they hid so well. Both so matching it could be seen the two were bonded and now brought back together.
She was silent as he stood and she approached him. The two looked at each other until she raised her hand to his cheek, a tear leaving one of his eyes. "How do I know it is you and not a joke by Augustine?"
"The second to last time I saw you was 1941 it was snowing and you came home to a drunk me...I was with some whore and you left. I didn't think you would forgive me..."
"What did I say the last time?" She mumbled looking in his eyes.
" That you loved me...and forgave me...that you would meet me at the dinner on Broadway later that day...at 9pm. Yet you never came. I never knew they got you till they got me. They used you against me every damn day. They loved burning me with my wedding band. They destroyed it." Her eyes watered blood that he quickly brushed away before she sunk into his arms like melting chocolate. "Shhh I've got you darling." Her weight was nearly enough to take him off balance to which she quickly noted.
"Don't go anywhere....gosh they've done a lot to you." She mumbled closing her eyes and calming her breath. Never had I seen her so vulnerable so weak around someone. Her guard down for anyone to see. He closed his eyes as I looked away and walked out the quarter. Elena was right. Erika was a game player and I was a piece.
