If we're writing an WWE AU Fanfiction, how do we write sounds? Like, if someone got shot, how would we interpret that into the story?
Describing sounds in a story really isn't quite as complicated as one might think. When I add it into one of my chapters, I like to put myself in that situation. I sit down and start typing my chapter and then when I get to the part that I want to add a sound, I close my eyes and imagine myself in the character's shoes. What do I hear?
In your question, you refer to someone getting shot. In my head, this is what I hear: The gun's ricochet vibrated through the air causing my breath to hitch as I watched the pistol's bullet flash across the yard and hit Jon in the chest. The initial bang of the trigger caused a loud ringing noise in my ears as I raced across the yard and knelt beside my wounded friend.
Obviously, this isn't the only way to incorporate sounds into your story but I think everything flows better if you add it into what you see. You don't just want to say, "The gun caused a loud bang." That's definitely not enough and it's choppy when you add it into your paragraph.
As far as sounds go, if you go to Google and type, "Words to describe sounds," you'll find a ton of resources to help you with your word choice. And don't ever be ashamed to look something up because honestly, I do it all the time. Sometimes our brains are tired and the word we want to use just isn't showing up in our mental dictionary. It happens, we're all human, but use the internet to your advantage. Sometimes, it can even give you ideas.
I sincerely hope this has helped answer your question. If any of my readers have something they would like me to cover, feel free to add it in the comment section or PM me. I'm sure someone else will have the same question but just be too afraid to ask.
