With a twist to the movie version, Ted doesn't get the seed until the end here. Really this is just an extended ending, not so much of an alternative one but oh well. Hope you like it anyways. <3

Onceler watched as Ted walked away from his home quickly, inspecting the truffula seed he'd been given. He knew that boy would bring the trees back... eventually. Things would get better.

Months passed since Ted left him and he'd last told a living soul his story, something about the air felt different. Cleaner? Was the sun shining brighter? Are the clouds dissipating? Was that... grass? Maybe it's just my old eyes playing tricks on me... or maybe... Then he saw it, in the distance. Something was moving near the horizon line. Could it be? Birds? No.. just smog.. But there was a sound, repeated noises. They were loud and sounded like car horns, were they birds?

Onceler went back inside and covered his window up again, sighing. It was nothing, I'm hallucinating.. He rubbed his gloved hands across his aging face, getting the itchy corners of his sleep deprived eyes. It's nothing. He sat down slowly in his chair with a slumped posture. I'd better not get my hopes up again. They're never coming back. Oncie sighed and dozed off with his face in his palm, tears streaking his pale, old cheeks.

A noise awoke Onceler at dawn, loud and without a tune. Have I finally gone mad? What is this? What is happening? He checked his window. Nothing. I knew it... but I haven't eaten in days. I might as well. He descended the flights of stairs slowly, making his way toward the kitchen. He'd punished himself by eating only things other than pancakes and marshmallows (his favorite foods) since the disappearance of the Lorax and his good friend (y/n). He missed them terribly, causing his heart to ache with regret daily for not changing his ways earlier. But he did miss the soft, fluffy texture of marshmallow pancakes and decided to stop torturing himself with disgusting food. I'll have something good for once. He directed his attention toward his refrigerator, thinking of the i ingredients he'd need to cook his meal. He went to open the fridge to grab the few items he needed from there, but as the door opened he heard the noise again. Closer this time, clearer. This can't be in my head? Can it? He looked out a window to see a truffula sprout out of the ground quickly and he gasped. A tree! A real, living tree! Ted's done it!

He sniffled in his kitchen, snot rolling down his Lorax style mustache, and opened the fridge again. What!? A barbaloot sat inside munching on his fruit. A barbaloot!! They're back? But where are... there was a sharp knock at the door that sounded like it was being shaken on its hinges. Hurriedly Once ran to open it, as quickly as an elderly man like himself could run. The dead stump in front of his home was shaking, lightning sparked across the sky and a light shone done right on the spot. The Lorax floated down from the sky and greeted the Onceler with a soft smile and gripped his hand. I knew you could bring the trees back.. thank you.. He felt like he was reverted to a younger form of himself, and to his surprise (and slight horror) his body did change. As a reward for bringing back the truffulas? Maybe so.

"Lorax you're back.." Behind the stump, only for a moment. They were fast and quiet but they were definitely there. It was (y/n). She was back...
