Sebastian was born a mystery.
Amelia refused to let anyone see the child and she refused to be seen by anyone but her doctor.
The whole kingdom was going insane at the thought of something being wrong with the royal baby. Of course, why else would she be hiding him?
Eduardo was infuriated.
Why would Amelia not let him see his child? He demanded to speak with her, but the doctor did not allow it.
He said that Amelia wanted time to fully heal before her husband was to see her.
Guillermo was so angered that the child was a boy that he had completely forgotten about his anger towards me. He had locked himself in our bedroom, frustrated with the fact that his children would not be heirs to the throne.
He had not come out for days and had not received a single meal in his room.
Nine days after the birth of Sebastian, we were at our midday meal, still confused as to why Amelia did not think she was fully healed. I took a sip of my wine and tried to ignore the fact that Dario was missing from the table. A server approached Fatima at the table and whispered something into her ear. Fatima's eyes grew wide as she looked at the woman in question. The server nodded and Fatima was on her feet instantly. We all got to our feet and looked at her for an explanation. She placed her cloth on the table.
"Excuse me" she said and hurried away. We sat down once she was gone and looked at one another in confusion.
I decided to try once again to bring a meal to Guillermo. I asked the servers to make me a plate with food for him.
I walked down the hall holding the tray with his meal and wine and steadily knocked on our bedroom door. I had not been inside our bedroom since the night before Amelia had fallen down the stairs. It felt strange to be standing outside my bedroom door after I had grown so accustomed to sleeping in the guest room Queen Isabella had set apart for me while Guillermo cooled down.
"Guillermo" I called to the other side of the door. The door flung open and the smell of strong whiskey hit me. Standing before me was Guillermo, a furious look on his face and his eyes bloodshot. Before I could say anything, Guillermo grabbed my arm and forcefully pulled me into the room, causing me to drop the tray of food in the hallway. I heard the shatter as he slammed the door behind me. I turned to look at Guillermo in disbelief but before I even made eye contact with him, I felt a sharp pain across my cheek as I heard the slap.
I held my hand over my stinging cheek and looked at Guillermo again. He was drunk. I held in my tears as he grabbed my hand away from my cheek and slapped me again. His hate filled eyes wanted to cause something, someone pain, and I just so happened to be the target.
He grabbed my upper arms with all his might and shook me.
"This is your fault! You deserve this for not giving me a son!" he said, seething with anger. I did not dare look him in his eyes. They would burn right through me, I could feel his hatred towards me seeping through my skin and into my heart. He pushed me against the wall and wrapped his hands tightly around my throat until I was gasping for air.
"You deserve this" he hissed once again, letting me go. I fell to the floor on my hands and knees, dizzy but finally breathing.
"My son should have been the heir not hers!" he said throwing a chair towards me. I gasped and pressed myself against the wall as the chair hit the wall next to me.
"Please just let me go" I begged, my voice hoarse. Guillermo's laugh boomed in the room.
"Let you go? Let you go so you and Dario could go laugh behind my back at your love affair? You're soiled! I do not want you anymore! I wanted a virgin but now Dario soiled you" he said getting in my face. I shook my head.
"Nothing happened" I pleaded to him. Guillermo slapped me once again and finished off my throwing me into the hallway, causing me to fall onto the broken glass.
I felt sharp stings on my arm and quickly got to my feet before Guillermo continued with his abuse. I hurried away towards the bedroom I had been sleeping in and locked myself in it.
I sobbed my heart out as I pulled out each and every piece of broken glass that had penetrated my skin and left horrible marks. I bathed in cold water, refusing to ask the servers to heat it up out of the fear that they would see me in this condition. Bloody, bruised and broken.
There was a knock on the door when I was combing my hair next to the fireplace.
"Princess Cornelia, I am here to take your bath water" a server called from the other side of the door. I felt my heart drop. I hurried out onto the balcony, hiding myself from the server with the taffeta curtains.
"Yes, come in" I said turning my back to her. The door creaked open and I heard the servers footsteps enter the room.
"Princess Cornelia?" She asked hesitantly.
"Yes just take the water and go" I said firmly. She must have been studying me because she did not move for a few seconds. I heard her take the water and leave, shutting the door behind herself.
