The ceremony was nothing like the funerals held in Spain. In Spain, everyone wore dark colors and mourned by crying.
In Agea, the people wore white and mourned by laughing at their memories of the deceased, dancing, and playing music.
Amelia returned to her bedroom and refused to leave or even let anyone in but her most trusted server.
I looked around the dining table and swallowed hard, ignoring the roaring silence.
Eduardo was nowhere to be found.
Guillermo ate happily, knowing that his coronation ceremony was this week, along with our wedding. Not ours, his. I on the other hand was a nervous wreck.
His life was complete. Not only was he going to be king, but his children would now be heirs to the throne. Amelia was miserable and Dario had not been seen since the kings death. It was rumored he had left the island out of shame, but I knew he was around here somewhere.
Queen Isabella was obviously upset about the kings death, and was not doing a very good job of covering up her emotions.
"Excuse me" she said standing up abruptly and hurrying out of the room before anyone had a chance to see her break into sobs.
"What a shame" Guillermo said sucking his teeth and shaking his head unsympathetically. I bit my tongue and looked up at Fatima who was glaring at him.
"I wish for you to respect my mothers mourning, cousin" she said coldly.
"Excuse me if I have offended you my dearest cousin" he said, an eyebrow raised at her.
"You disgust me Guillermo" Fatima said and rose from the table.
"The country will truly suffer under your reign" she said and pulled Karissa up from her seat without hesitation. She turned on her heels and walked out of the room angrily.
I closed my eyes and let out a long breath.
"Guillermo, I need some fresh air" I said to him.
"No" he said stiffly turning to look at me. I stared at him in disbelief.
"A kings wife eats every meal with him" he said angrily. I held my breath, glad that we were alone.
"A queen?" I asked tightening my jaw. He slapped me across the face, but I was not surprised this time. I got to my feet.
"No queen should be treated this way!" I said, tired of his horrible way of acting towards me.
"I refuse to marry you at the end of this week or ever! I'd rather be a lonely maid for the rest of my days if it means escaping this insufferable nightmare I have been living with you" I shouted angrily. Guillermo got to his feet and grabbed me by my collar, slamming me against the table angrily.
"How dare you disrespect me in such a crude manner!" he said and spit in my face. Tears flowed down my face.
"I dare you to try and escape this marriage Cornelia" he hissed in my face. "And you will be sorry" he said and let go of me. I wiped his spit off of my face and watched as he walked out of the room, past Eduardo who had seen everything. He chuckled to himself and shook his head, turning on his heels and leaving the dining room.
