It's been five months since any of us have mentioned Mr. -
I don't want to break the record.
Let me start over. It's been five months since any of us have mentioned the name of the mad man. None of us mention the "trip" or the "fall." I hope you understand what I'm trying to tell you.
Ever since then, we've had a fresh start. I'm seventeen now. I feel normal again. I have a new phone, with a blue sparkly case. I have the same old Sophie that invited Jay to that miserable party last year. Jayson and I are a couple that are our quirky selves. We decided to stay ourselves, and not let being a couple change who we really are. Suzy and Suzan technically are like my sisters now, and they rented an apartment room right next to ours. Jayson, well, he increased a little more. He started with causal mind reading powers. Now? He can play past memories like a movie to you... That's totally normal. Let's say I wanted to remember when I went into Jonathan's Diner to order a salad. He'd look into my eyes and it'd play; If I want it to or not. The only people who know are Mom, Jayson's Dad, Suzy, Suzan, myself, Janie, Kaitlyn, Nikki, Jacob, and I would say Parker, but... Um, uh. Well...
Anyways!
I feel normal again. For some reason, besides all the drama at school, I want to go back. I feel more normal at school. Being smart kinda makes me happy. Well, mostly happy. If Sophie moves to Africa to take a trip to Mars? I'd take that other sentence back.
I get off my bed and take a look out my window. The stars gleamed and the moon was a toenail. Ha, that's memories from nine years old. I walk back to my bed and look at the ceiling. Time goes by too fast. I look at my new phone and stare at it. Finally, I turn it on. Nine o' clock pm. I put my phone on my desk and shut my eyes. I flick them open, quickly slip off my sneakers, and close my eyes again.
* * *
What time is it?
I open my eyes and turn off my alarm. six-thirty am. I get up, slip a tee over my red tank top, keep my sweatpants on, grab my phone and brush, and sit back on my bed. I brush my hair out half way, and look at my door. It's wide open, so I stand up to close it.
"It just closed yesterday..." I say to myself. It won't even budge. It's like something's stopping it from closing. I swing it backwards and it moves. I swing it forward and it stops. What? I swing it back and bend down.
The beeping card.
I forgot all about that. When I broke my old phone, this fell out of it. It's the size of a memory SD card. I examine it, and the red light is still beeping, well, blinking. There's a slight beep, but very soft. I slip on my sneakers and run downstairs with the blinking card in my hand. I tell Mom I'm going to see Suzy for a second. I head out and press their beeper.
"Hello?" Someone answers, muffled.
"Is that Suzy?" I ask.
"Yeah," She swallows, "sorry, eating breakfast."
"Can I come in?"
"Sure." She beeps me in, and the door unlocks, allowing me to walk in. I smile and take the card out of my pocket. "Have you seen anything like this?" I ask.
"Well, it for sure looks like a tracker, but I'm no expert." She says.
"Tracker? Do you think it's from- It can't me."
"My advice is to just burn it." She says, still chewing on cereal. I ask if she has a lighter, and she nods. Suzy walks me to her kitchen and I see Suzan. I wave to her, and could see she's buttering bread. Suzy asks her twin sister for a lighter, and Suzan tosses it to her. I place the card in a bag, and we walk outside. I light the lighter on the corner of the bag, and it burns.
