Another week had passed and Olly and I had grown quite close. Because I wasn't allowed to leave the house (they couldn't risk me figuring out where I was) he had volunteered to stay and keep watch over me. In a week we had watched twenty-five movies, baked twelve cakes, curled up on the couch together fifteen times and only screamed at each other once.
We had gotten into an argument on Monday, because I had tried to make him believe that Kai didn't know he was alive but when he had clenched his jaw so tightly as if he wanted to say something really hurtful towards me I decided that I should probably let Kai and Olly have it out with each other rather than playing peacemaker.
Today was Wednesday. And it had been a week since Kai had set out on his 'mission'; I hadn't seen him since.
"Olly?" I questioned as he turned and looked at me from where he was stood at the stove making breakfast.
"Hmm?"
"Where's Kai?"
Olly's back tensed slightly and a look of discomfort fell upon his features.
"I don't know. I thought he would have visited you by now."
Visited me by now? Did that mean that Kai was free to visit me whenever he pleased, he just hadn't?
"What do you mean? Is he allowed to visit me?" I asked again, only this time my voice relayed my slight disappointment to him.
Olly nodded,
"Yeah. It's part of a members contract; they can visit their 'guarantor' any time they wish, to ensure that they are in good health."
I swallowed. Kai hadn't been to see me because he didn't want to see me.
Olly noticed my crest fallen face and sighed.
"Listen, Calla, I may not know my brother anymore but I do know how he used to be and when he's around you, I see that same person. He's better with you, he's happy and he's in love. He'll come soon, okay? Even if I have to drag him here at gunpoint."
I nodded, whispering a small thanks as Olly slid a plate of fresh pancakes and fruit in front of me before sitting opposite me with his own.
"Okay, so after breakfast I'm taking you to see Lydia so she can see how much weight you've put on, then I'm going to see the boss man to ask him if I can take you out."
Ugh, the thought of gaining weight both pleased me and utterly disgusted me.
"No. Don't look like that, you need to put on weight. I know it's hard for you right now, to believe that you'll still be pretty even when you're a few pounds heavier, but trust me you'll still be drop-dead gorgeous."
He pointed at me with his index finger, his way of warning me to wipe the negative expression off my face before he did it for me with iced water. I knew not to test him, because the last time I had looked disgusted in relation to myself he had emptied a cold bottle of water down the back of my neck.
With a small grin I raised my hands in mock surrender before gripping my fork and picking at a few bits of food. Olly had helped me immensely when it came to my eating habits. In just a short week he had managed to get me to eat half of my recommended daily calories as opposed to the quarter that I usually ate.
I wasn't sure whether I wanted to know what I now weighed. I could definitely tell a slight difference - at least I thought I could- and I knew that Olly wouldn't tell me if I didn't want to know.
Just as I picked up a sugar coated strawberry his words replayed in my head.
"You're going to ask to take me out of the house? I thought that was a big no-no."
