I didn't know how long we had been sat in silence on the top of Kai's car, it wasn't a comfortable one either. I am so sick of my life falling apart, can't I be like everybody else? Just for once.

"Calla, I'm sorry." Kai whispered, and somehow I knew that he meant it. It didn't make it okay though. I knew it wasn't him that killed my dad, nor was he responsible for it, but it he was still part of the MEC.

I took a deep breath and sighed. His eyes seemed sad and scared when I pulled his face towards mine gently,mc upping his jaw and splaying my fingers across his strong cheek bones.

"Kai, you didn't kill my dad, I know that. I don't blame you for his death. But,please, don't I deserve to know why you are stuck?"

I desperately wanted to know, however I wasn't going to push him to reveal two secrets in one day. Kai clearly wasn't used to opening up to people, and I was one of the few that had the honour to know a little more than his outer shell.

A slight pang of guilt hit me as I saw him close his eyes as if he were in pain before dropping his head onto my shoulder and tucking his face into my neck. No, Kai, don't do that! It just makes me want to kiss you, and I won't kiss you. Who am I kidding? If Kai kissed me, I wouldn't ever stop him.

I tilted my head back and let out a soft sigh as his lips grazed up and down my neck, little shocks of pleasure following and his warm breath caressed my skin.

I tangled my fingers in his lusciously soft hair, guiding his head up to be level with mine before placing my lips on his own.

Kai might be part of the MEC, but he doesn't scare me. He bit my lip lightly, tugging on it gently before pulling away and resting his forehead on mine. Jeez. He looked at me and smiled. It was a genuine smile, not a forced 'I don't actually like you but I feel sorry for you so I'll just pretend I do' kind of smile. It was the kind of smile that makes you smile yourself.

"I'll tell you some day, but today is not the day. Now if you don't mind, I need a cigarette. I can get off the car if it bothers you." He told me as he pushed a stray piece of hair away from my face.

"No," I shook my head slightly, " It doesn't bother me, stay."

I climbed off of him and turned so that my back was towards him, my legs dangling down over the front windshield. After a couple of seconds I heard the click of a lighter and then felt his arms wrap around my waist and move me so that my back was leaning against his chest with his legs either side of me.

Wow, even a simple hug from him made my stomach flip.

The smell of soap, vanilla and cigarette smoke should have been fairly off putting but to me it was what safety smelt like. Kai was my safety. I could feel a satisfied smile form on my lips as I leant further against him, his face just a couple of millimetres above mine. His body shifted slightly as he looked down at me, his cigarette dangling from his lips,

"What?" He muttered, although his voice wasn't cold. Now, don't get me wrong, I know smoking is bad. Very bad. But, some people just suit it; Kai was one of those people.

I hummed in response.

" Nothing. You make me feel safe, that's all... I like it." Embarrassment swept over me, oh god I cant believe what I just said.

I could almost sense his grin as he pulled the cigarette from his lips and went to put it out on the roof of his car. Oh no! Not the car!

"No!" I semi-shouted as I held his wrist.

"What the fuck, Calla?" There was laughter and bewilderment laced into his tone.

"I like your car. Don't damage it!" My cheeks were on fire but I wasn't going to back down. Not today. Not when Kai's beautiful car would be damaged.

He let out a roar of laughter, put his cigarette out on sole of his shoe then flicked it off of his car before wrapping his arms around me and continuing to laugh.

"It's not that funny, Kai." I muttered although secretly I hoped he never stopped laughing, ever.

When he finally sobered up, he kissed my cheek and left his lips to linger there, tingles racing through my body.

"Back to the point at hand, Calla, I'm glad you feel safe around me. You shouldn't, but I'm glad you do. Because I'm going to keep you safe." He whispered.

Kai may be a so called bad ass, but deep down I know that there is more to the story, more than he is willing to let on. I felt him place a hand on my chin as he turned my face towards his, capturing my lips with his own. His breath tasted of cigarette smoke and... raspberries? I don't care what it is, it tastes amazing. His tongue traced my mouth as my own did the same to his, although the kiss was anything but rushed.

Finally, Kai pulled away and I tried to get my breath back. Jeez, people don't lie when they say kissing can kill you, huh? On the other hand, Kai seemed to be absolutely fine. Asshole. He grinned at me, almost as if he read my mind,

"You shouldn't call the person you have a crush on an asshole, Calla." Maybe it wasn't in my mind. Wait? Crush?

"I don't have a crush on you Kai." I told him, although I'm fairly sure I was trying to convince myself.

"Mhmm. 'Kay."

I rolled my eyes before standing up on the roof of his car and stretching, well aware of Kai's gaze. Oh well, it takes more than one person to play a game. I'm not sure where all of my confidence has come from recently, but I think I like it.

Kai's hand reached out and wrapped around my ankle, stopping me from moving as he looked up at me.

"Calla? Do you think- do you think your mum would mind if you stayed with me tonight? That's if you want to. It's just, t-tomorrow is kind of a sp-special day and it's not a good one. I could use the s-support."

I could feel my eyes widen as he stuttered. Never in the short time I had known him had he been nervous, let alone stutter. He took one look at my expression and looked away, refusing to meet my gaze. His hand slipped from my ankle and he slid off his car.

"Kai I-" I started but he cut me off completely.

"I get it, don't worry, I'll take you home." He opened his door and was about to climb inside until I jumped off the roof and landed in front of his side. I grabbed the belt loops on the back of his jeans and pulled him back.

"For fricks sake Kai, let me finish!" I yelled, but I wasn't angry by any means.

"Yes, I will stay with you tonight. But you buy food for my mum tomorrow, deal?" I bargained with him, sticking my hand out and hoping it made him feel less vulnerable.

He looked over his shoulder and grinned before turning to face me and taking my outstretched hand,

" Deal,Baby." And with that the devilish grin was back on his face and I realised,

It was going to be one long night.
