Alex's dress to the party.
I wake up next morning to the sound of my mom talking on the phone down the hallway. "...You have to come today. She'll want to see him, I'm sure." She stops talking for a second to hear the response from the person on the other side before saying, "I know that they had a fight and stopped talking but that was 2 and a half years ago. They'll get over it and be best friends the way they used to be and maybe even admit their feelings for each other."
The second those words leave her mouth, I knew she was talking about Dylan but I just didn't understand what was going on. Come over? But they lived on the other side of the country and there was no way that even if Dylan was here that I would forgive him after what he did. Then again maybe just got too busy with everything over there that he didn't have time to keep in contact with me. I shake my head slightly before dropping my head into my hands. What could have possibly happened to Dylan to make him loose contact with me. Maybe he found someone that he really liked over there and decided that he wound spend his time with her rather that waste it talking to me on the phone all day.
Thoughts and theories as to why Dylan stopped talking to me ran through my head until my phone going off brings me back to reality. I quickly scrambled for my night stand, almost falling off the bed in the process of retrieving my phone. "Hello?"
"I'm going to come over to help you get ready for the party in about an hour, so hop in the shower so that we can just blow dry your hair, do your make-up and pick your outfit when I get there." It was Claire. Wait, did she say she'd be here in an hour? I glance at the clock and realize that it's almost 4 and the party starts at 6. Had I really slept in that late or did I spend hours absentmindedly thinking about Dylan without realizing it.
"Um ok. I'll get in right now." Before I can say anything else, I hear the line go dead meaning she hung up. I pull the phone away from my ear and stare at it in confusion. What was that?
I reluctantly crawl out of bed and stumble my way to the bathroom. I turn the water on so that it runs hot and look at myself in the mirror waiting for it to heat up. The minute my eyes land on my reflection, I groan. I look like someone just crawled out of a grave and then died again.
Once I start to see steam over the curtain, I jump into the shower. I scrub myself and wash my hair before turning the water off and grabbing my towel to wrap myself in. I walk out to my room only to find Claire going through my closet. "Um, what are you doing here? You said you'd be here in an hour..." I glance at the clock. "It's only been 20 minutes."
She looks in my direction for a split second before turning back to shuffling through my closet. "I got bored at my house so I thought I'd come here and we could start getting ready earlier." She smiles at me over her shoulder as she says it.
I walk over to my drawers and pull out my underwear and a bra and slip them on. After I head over to where Claire is standing to help her pick out something for me to wear. We shift through my closet for a while longer until Claire lets out a squeal signifying that she has found something. She pulls out a light pick dress that I had stuffed in the back of my closet a years ago thinking that I would never have a reason to wear it. It is a strap-less dress with a sweet-heart neck line and jewels adorning it at the bust. Below the waist it flares out a little and stops at my mid-thigh. It was perfect.
I remember finding it at the store in the 9th grade and falling in love with it. I bought it but soon realized that there would be no opportunity to so I stuffed in the back of my closet, completely forgetting it was even there until now. "Oh my God, Claire! It's perfect. I'm so glad that you found it."
She hands it to me and I slip into the bathroom to put it one. It's a little tighter than I remember but it still fits pretty well on my so it will do. When in walk out into my room Claire looks up at me and her jaw drops. "Damn girl. You look hot and you don't even have your make-up on or your hair done. Austin is going to die when he sees you tonight." I smile at the thought of Austin seeing me in this dress.
