Chapter one-Days Gone Bye
Makenna's POV
I open my eyes welcomed by the smell of fried fish. I sat up grabbing my boots slipping them on humming to myself. I climb out of the tent I share with my cousin Anna. I see the group gathered around a small fire they were using to cook their fish. They were all laughing and talking enjoying there mid-morning breakfast.
"Why didn't anyone wake me up?" I ask walking over to Anna sitting beside her.
"I thought you deserved the extra rest on account of you catching our food." She replied taking a bite out of her fish.
"Well thank you, did anyone save me some?" I asked looking at the group smirking.
"Maybe." Shane replied holding out the a. We all burst out into a fit of laughter.
"Here you go." He said handing me my fish.
"Thank you, but I could've cooked it myself." I replied taking a bite.
"Well now you don't have to." Shane replied.
Me and Shane are pretty close. We go hunting together, we tell each other our stories before the apocalypse started. He even told me about Rick, Lori's husband.
Glenn, Andrea, Jacque, and a few others left for a run into the city yesterday. I volunteered to go but Glenn took my place because he didn't want me going. Me and Glenn are best friends. We would do anything to keep one another out of trouble.
When we all were done eating Anna and Amy go fishing, Shane and Daryl go hunt, Dale keeps watch, while me and Lori wash clothes.
"Do you think they'll be back soon?" I asked Lori scrubbing Sophia's shirt.
"I'm not to sure sweetie, they shouldn't be gone to much longer." She replied.
"Your worried about Glenn aren't you?" She asked smirking at me.
"Yeah, I am. He's my best friend I don't want anything to happen to him." I replied shrugging my shoulders.
"Look, Glenn's a tough guy. He'll be just fine, they all will." Lori claimed dipping the rag into the water.
"Mommy!" I heard coming from the woods.
I jumped to me feet grabbing my gun and running towards the sound. Carol and Shane following close behind.
Sophia ran up to us clutching onto her mom.
"Sophia, what's wrong?" I asked.
"I thought I saw a walker in the woods." Sophia replied squeezing her eyes shut.
"Why were you all the way out there?" Shane asked bending down.
Sophia didn't answer.
"Let's just go back to camp. If there are anymore signs of walkers we'll scout out the place.
We walked back up to camp. Dale was by the radio with Amy.
"Shane come here." Dale called.
Shane rushed over to them slamming his axe into the chunk of wood the radio was resting on.
"Hello, hello is the caller still on?" Shane asked.
All we got was static. "Hello?" Shane asked again.
Shane looked up at Dale and shook his head.
"He said he was going to the city." Dale said.
"Folks got no idea what he's getting into." Amy said looking a little concerned.
"Wait he said the city right?" I asked getting worried about what Amy just said.
Dale, Shane, Amy, and Carol all gave each other a look.
"Listen Makenna, Glenn didn't want you going because going to the city is really dangerous. Lots of walkers are staying there because that's where they found the most food." Shane said.
"Why the hell did no one tell me!?" I asked yelling.
"Calm down." Shane said stepping closer.
"Don't tell me to calm down when my best friend is out there probably..."
"Hey don't talk like that, I told you he will be back." Lori said crossing her arms.
"Oh my god." I mumbled walking off to my tent.

I've been in my tent since I first walked back in here. I was laying down thinking about Glenn.
"Makenna, are you hungry?" Anna walked inside asking me.
"No, I'm fine." I replied sitting up to look at her.
"Look they'll be back soon. Don't think about it anymore." She said.
"I'm just gonna go to sleep. Good night Anna." I replied laying back down.
"Ok Makenna, good night." She replied slipping out of my tent.
