After we snuck out of school, hitting all of the security cameras blind spots, me and Cassandra ventured on into the forest. I wonder why the school never wanted students in the forest? Was it because of animals? Where we live in Finland theres no really big animals like bears or anything, so we should be good. We walked silently until I asked a question.
"Cassandra, why did you really come to Finland?" I spoke. I admit it, I'm kind of afraid of her, she could kick my ass any second of the day, just like she did to Brittanys boyfriend, Mark.
"Alekssandra, I told you, just family business." she replied with an annoyed expression.
"Yes, I realize that... But what kind of family business? I'm just really curious. I mean, what type of family business makes you go to a whole different country?" I spoke carefully. I don't want to piss her off anymore than she already is.
"Aleks, can we please just drop it? I'm honestly not in the mood to talk about it." I nodded, a shy nod. We continued walking through the cold mossy forest, stepping on twigs, hearing a few crows here and there. We must've been walking for hours because the sky is starting to darken. In finland the sky darkens around 3:00PM or 4:00PM, depending on the time of the year.
"Cassandra, where are we going?" I whined as we exited the forest and out into a field. Sitting in the middle of the field was an abandoned gothic mansion, that i've never seen here in my entire life. The windows were boarded up, the paint drying of the walls. The house looks like it's been built in the 1800's, it also looks like it hasn't been inhabited in years. I looked at Cassandra, waiting for an explanation.
"This is where I live" she said in an obvious 'Duh' tone.
"But, it looks like it's been abandoned for years, if not decades!" I exclaimed with shock. Of course I'm going to be shocked, it's a fucking and abandoned 1800's gothic mansion in the middle of a field! And to top it off, my friend lives in it!
"You live here?" I asked already knowing the answer
"My great great great grandfather and grandma built it. It's been passed down, I thought I'd fix it up." I made an o with my mouth, and we proceeded to walk to the mansion. We stepped on the gravel drive way and damn, it looks even bigger up close, if that's possible. We walk up to the atleast 10 foot door and she slips in a golden-like key, the door clicks and earns a giant moan from old age.
Inside is beautiful, the tiles in the foyer are black and white checkered, and there is a chandelier hanging above the foyer. Across the foyer is a marble staircase, leading away from two doors to the left and right, shining in it's self glory. The walls are coloured a greyish-blue, almost iridecent.
"Wow" was all I could say, I was speechless. How did she earn the money to upkeep this house?
"Yep" was all she said. Cocky bastard. We walked up the marble staircases and down a hall. Three left turns and one right turn, we finally ended up at another door. Cassandra flung it open, and there was a pretty casual room. Grey walls with a four poster bed near a sun tanning window. A dresser neatly tucked away into a corner of the room, and a bass guitar sat lazily across the bed.
"You play bass?" I asked. That is so hot. Bass players, mm mmm mm. I love them.
"Yeah, a little. When I was a little girl my father made me play every single instrument, except the new, up beat urban ones. He'd always say:" she tried to act all guy-like with her voice,"Cassandra, the old is good. The new is bad." I giggled because her impression was terrible. I ran and jumped on her bed, careful not to break her guitar.
"I'm sure you haven't noticed because you're new this year, but everyone seems a little... Off. Like some of the quiet, 'off the radar' type of people are all... I don't know... Weird? Like my friend Danielle, she's extremely pale, and she loves the sun! Even the new principal of the school is pale. But I heard she was the orignal owner, whatever that means." I rambled on. Cassandra gave me an odd look I couldn't quite decipher, but before I could recognize it she jumped on her bed and laid down beside me, noses almost touching.
"I think you're just imagining things... Maybe you need a good sleep after today, afterall. You're only a tiny geek." She teased with a wink. I playfully pushed her and she fell off the bed. Come on! I didn't push her that hard.
"Cassandra, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" I said sniffling, about to cry, thinking I hurt my new found friend.
"I'm fine... BUT YOU AREN'T!" She screamed playfully and then she jumped on the bed and started to tickle me senseless. It's like she knew where all my tickly spots were!
"Ahaha! Stop! Please!" I said while laughing so hard. "I'm going to pee myself!" I exclaimed, because I really did have to pee. Finally she stopped.
"Paybacks a bitch" she said and pecked me on the cheek. I know it was a friendly kiss, but I still blushed scarlet red. I sat there out of breath and Cassandra sat there staring at the roof...
"Shit! What time is it?" I asked with worry and haste
"4:40, why?" She said nonchalantly.
"I have to be home after school by 3:30!" I screamed, my heart raced. Not once in my entire life have I gone against my 'parents'. I was never a rebel, I was a goody two shoes.
"Want me to walk home with you?" she asked "If you want, but I don't want you walking back by yourself" I said.
"I'll be fine, lets just get you home, eh?" She replied with a heart-warming smile. I returned the smile and we got up and went downstairs to go get our jackets and shoes on. I tied up my converse while she slipped her combat boots on, and she waited patiently for me.
"Okay lets go" I said as I finished my perfect knot. We walked out the door and out into the dark night of smoldering frost. The walk back was peaceful, mostly quiet. I asked her once about her family heritage and she just replied with "It's boring stuff, really, just business and politics." I didn't believe her one bit though. Nope.
There is something more to this girl then what meets the eye.
