"It was the very first evening of the month, where the moonlight first shine upon her."
~*~
Inuyasha was nervous. Very.
Why shouldn't he? Oh yes, he should. Getting married with Kagome just a year ago was only the beginning, the first step, a head start of his life. He could handle it, he should be able to handle it. And he did, thank God.
But Kagome being pregnant? That, was another story. He panicked for it. It's not like he didn't want to be irresponsible for making his beloved wife pregnant (although they actually had sex on purpose back then), he was... not ready, to be exact. To be a father.
He flinched at the thought, and stared up at the starry, night sky. He himself had no memories with his own father. And technically, he didn't even saw his face before, not to mention remembering it. How could he know how to be a father if he wasn't even raised by one?
"Now, now, Inuyasha," His friend, Miroku spoke up, popped out of nowhere, making Inuyasha jumped a little. The monk seemed to understand his thoughts for being nervous and all, since his wife, Sango had given birth twice and now they had to raise three children. (There were a pair of twins) Miroku then tried to comfort him as he patted the half-demon's shoulder. "Rest assured. Everything's going to be fine."
"That's easy for you to say, Miroku," Inuyasha scoffed, but then turned back to his tensed mode again. He couldn't help it.
"As if, Inuyasha," Miroku shook his head. "Look, I had been through what you have, twice, and it was not easy at all. Being nervous for this is perfectly normal. But trust me, panicking won't do any help."
"I know, bu-"
Kagome's loud cry instantly interrupted their conversation. That had made Inuyasha restored to his ultra-panic mode.
"Hang in there, Kagome!" Sango's voice was heard between the ear-piercing screams. "That's it, push harder!"
"That's it, Kagome!" Inuyasha couldn't stand the screaming, and rushed towards the door. "I'm gonna-"
"SIT BOY!" Kagome shouted with all her might, and Inuyasha was sent faced into the ground. No way she would let her first labour be disturbed, especially when it had terms with Inuyasha.
"N-Not this again..." Inuyasha groaned. It was quite obvious that this wasn't the first time he was 'sit' by Kagome during the whole labouring business, and Miroku couldn't do anything but sighed and shook his head in slight disappointment.
The yelling and crying of Kagome had echoed through the whole village. But minutes later, instead of her cry, a baby's cry was heard.
That was when Inuyasha sprung up and rushed into the hut without fail. As he got in, he slowed down his pace. He glanced at his wife, who was seen lying on the floor, with a blanket covering nearly half her body, smiling at him as a reply of his presence. He then noticed Sango was holding a small bundle in her hands. Not just any bundle... it was a living thing.
A baby. His baby.
Inuyasha was totally speechless, unable to express his excitement with words or even movements. Sango giggled at the reaction of his, and handed him the infant.
"There you go," Sango lowered her voice and slowly move the baby to Inuyasha's arms, making the newborn let out a short cry. Sango then added "It's a girl."
"G-Girl?" Was what Inuyasha managed to say, making Sango smile with slight amusement.
Inuyasha took a quick glance at his firstborn daughter, his heart racing, yet relaxed a little at the same time. He was afraid that Kagome's couldn't make it, since she's a human who was going to give birth to a demon. But she did survived, and so was their child. Now he himself wondered how did his own mother made it out alive while giving birth to him in the first place.
He lifted up some part of the cloth covering her with his right hand, while the other hand holding the newborn. It revealed her little, chubby face, which was decorated with short tufts of silvery white hair that was inherited from her father's, and two dog ears on top of her head. Her eyes were golden with a slight shade of brown, and they gleamed like little shimmering amber pieces.
She's beautiful.
Not wanting to interrupt the couple with their first child, Sango left quietly, leaving Inuyasha and Kagome and the infant alone in the hut.
Inuyasha took a breath, as he went to Kagome's side, and handed her the newborn daughter. Kagome still had her smile plastered on her face, facing him and then stared at her first child.
"She's beautiful, isn't she?" Kagome whispered in a calm tone, her hands reaching out for her first daughter.
"Yeah," Inuyasha nodded slightly as he handed the newborn back to her mother. Undeniably, he had to agree with a smile, which he rarely did.
"So... what should we name her?" Kagome asked.
"N-Name?" Inuyasha's eyes widened at the question. He admitted he wasn't good at names, although he didn't actually named someone so important in his life before. And we all know, a name resembles the person's identity, and it's permanent. No way he would messed this up. Not this time.
Still thinking of a name, he stared up towards the small window on top of the hut, where a ray of moonlight shone through it. He followed the trail of the moonlight, and found himself looking back at the child. The silvery moonlight had shone upon the infant, making her hair let out a soft glow due to reflecting the light, as if it was a blessing by the moon. Dazed by the enchanting view, he then remembered that this very night was also the first evening of the month (A/N: No this was not the day of the new moon, but the first day of the month. Don't get confused, they're totally two different days. Just fyi)
I got it. It's perfect. Hardly a whisper, he said a name. "Sakuya."
Kagome gave him a surprised look. "Sakuya?"
"Y-You know," Inuyasha started to explain. "It means 'the first evening of the month', and today is the first of the month, so... I guess that a good name for her. To remember her birthday."
After listening to his explanation, she smiled with agreement. "Sakuya, huh? I like it, and it does suit her." She gazed back at the newborn, who was officially named as Sakuya. "My little Sakuya."
Inuyasha let out a smile again, this was probably one of the happiest days of his life. Nothing else mattered anymore. Just him, his beloved wife and daughter, living together peacefully without any harmful threats, even though it was just the beginning.
And he swore to God that this was something he would never trade for the world.
