"Never fear quarrels, but seek hazardous adventures."

The door was only less than one step away, yet it seemed like miles away for her, the doorknob far beyond her reach.

Sakuya sighed as she rubbed her sweaty hand repetitively on her sweatpants, her other hand gripping her skateboard tighter. Why did this had to be so hard? Probably it was because she hadn't prepared a proper speech for the occasion yet. After all, she couldn't just budged in and shouted 'Hey Mom, guess what? I just met this crazy monkey guy in a fricking forest who had claimed to know my real parents and even gives me a map to them. How sweet of him, right? Should we give him a banana as a thank you present?', could she?

Nope. Absolutely NOT.

But she wouldn't just leave this situation hanging like that. This was like a life or death situation for her, yet it couldn't be an excuse for her to have a mini panic attack, could it? Anyway, all she needed to do for now was to ask Naomi some questions about her past or sort, got this over with, and when she had enough information that satisfied her, she went for it. Searching for her real family. Simple as that.

The thought made her feel giddy for a second, yet it then slowly died down to fear and confusion. Was she up to the task? Was this decision a huge risk for her? Was she doing the right thing? Was there any reason for her to feel so uncertain about this?

Again, why did she even consider the words from a total stranger in the first place? Plus, that guy seemed psychotic. No, correction here, he probably was psychotic. Anyway, if she chose to ignore them, it might even make things simpler to deal with.

You don't need to think twice.

Sakuya shook her head. What had gotten into her? She had decided. She would not turn back. She had also told herself, she had to do it today.

Do it now. Now or never. No regrets.

"Okay," Sakuya took a breath, and turned on the doorknob.

I can do this. Everything's going be just fine.

It was quite easy to spot where her foster mother was as she got into the house. After all, the house they rented only contained a small living room, a simple kitchen, a basic bathroom at each floor and a few extra rooms that were constructed as two bedrooms and a storeroom. Simple, yet convenient.

Naomi was seen sitting comfortably on the fake leather couch in the living room, reading a newspaper. A mug was captivated in her right hand, with scribbles that said "For The World's Best Mommy" that was obviously the work of a child's, and that child was Sakuya when she was only eight. Naomi took a sip from it, then she looked up and saw Sakuya in sight, and gave her a smile.

"You're surprisingly early," said Naomi. "You're always back either on time or later than that."

"Um yeah," Sakuya shrugged and rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly. "It's just..." Not ready to finish her sentence, she paused and sighed. Naomi put down her newspaper, waiting for her to continue. She knew something was up, that was for sure.

Okay this is it. You can do this.

"Okay. Mom..." said Sakuya, her voice quite firm this time. "I need to talk to you. It's about what happened to me back... then."

Naomi nodded without hesitation. "I'm listening."

Alright, Sakuya took a huge breath. Here goes.
