DOWN THE SPINE

Chapter 8

"When I first met Tabby, I though I had it all. I don't talk of her a lot. She made my life look like a huge mess. She wanted money. Money made man mad for reals!"  I had noted his use of the words, "for reals".
"Then what? Go one honey. "
He smiled and then opened his phone and showed me a photo.
" This is her account. "I gasped.
The millions in it were uncountable. It was a screenshot taken two years ago. I looked at Chase again and gasped.
" Your name is not Chase. You look familiar too since the first day. Who are you? " I stood. He held my hand.
" Sit. Don't cause drama. " he said.
" Your girlfriend got caught for stealing. You changed your name to Chase. You are Max. I know you from that case I was working on with your girlfriend's lawyer before I started working at my current company. "
" You believe that too? I though you had enough time to know me. " He stood and walked out. I followed him.
" That drama you caused there. " he was mad.
" I am sorry. But i just realised who you are. " I said hugging him. He held me tightly.
" I cannot trust women. Actually you are the only woman in my small circle of friends since then. Making me bankrupt and stealing family wealth made me this. No one trusts me. She will pay one day for all that. You helped print her case of defence. I don't blame you. I wont revenge. I just want you"
This men of wanting women scare me. I wanted to tell him that. Instead I walked to the rented car and drove home. I had just left what my heart wanted.
Terry came to check in two weeks later and had a parcel.
"My brother told me to bring you this. At least he found a girl worth him this time round. Tabby was a real slut."
"Pardon. Is Chase your brother?"
It seemed our circle was connected. Celine and his Prince brother was the first shock. Now Terry and her brother.
"He didn't tell you? Anyway,  he talks less of his family. Tabby messed everything. No one trusts him now. He needs a woman in his life. He keeps mentioning this mystery woman. He said you would deliver the gift to her. Who is she? " she asked smiling at me.
" Not aware. But I will get the gift to her. Where is Crystal? " I missed the little girl. Then i realised something.
" Crystal looks much more like your brother. Why don't you two look a like? My life is full of funny twists. Like family and relationship twists. Talking about relationship, how is Bleen? "
" Damn you, Bleen is such a diva of late. Her boyfriend seems to be changing her. Lucky Solomon. Bleen is such a husband... I mean a wife. "I laughed off. I knew what she meant.
" I want to date a man to.  A new man, I want him to become what he always wanted. What he was before. Get kids who look like Crystal. He is a nice guy. He is not like Melvin and all the others. "
" Romantic! You never have created such description of men in your life to me. "
She had said it all. With even all the pain, i had kept my relationships a secret. This man was special. Just then my phone rang.
" Is this miss Diana? "a male voice asked.
" Yes please. Who am I speaking to? " Terry looked at me and then at her phone. Horror was written all over her face.
" I am calling to inform you of sudden death of Dorcas Epishe who was severally stubbed by her boyfriend over a DNA test that was not matching his. Its said Mark was sterile. Miss Hellena was severally stubbed and is in hospital. "
I collapsed.
I cried painfully.
" I caused it. I told her to tell him. " was all i could say. I felt like i had caused it all. Chase hugged me.
" You didn't. You told her to do what was right for her. Miss Hellena will be fine. Melvin walked in to my hospital ward and found me in Chase's arms.
"Thanks God you are up. My sister is okay too for now. Mark was just jealous dear. Its done, its sorrowful too. But let go the pain. You are special. Chase, take care of her. If you treat her well, be assured of an empire."
I smiled for once that day.
New chapters in life awaited after the burial of Dorcas. I never forgot her and how happy she had been when mark had accepted the child. She had cheated on him one time. A time when he treated her like part time!
