"Morgan Grace!" Mom's voice behind me stops me from grabbing the doorknob, catching me by surprise. "Just where do you think you're going?"

"Um...Uh...Uh... Outside?" I stuttered awkwardly, turning around in shock that she was already awake.

"Oh really?" Mom snorted and began the coffee maker going. "At 7 o'clock in the morning?"

Dang it! I thought. She's already suspicious!

"You're never dressed at seven, much less awake before noon!" Mom said, staring deep into my eyes. "What's going on, Morgan?"

"I was...I was just...." I rocked back and forth on my heels, looking for excuses. "I was up really early because.... I really wanted to go to Beach City with you!" I sighed, relieved I had actually found one. "I figured if I got up early enough before you left, I might have been able to convince you to let me go with you." I sighed, putting on the saddest, most depressed face I could.

Mom smiled sympathetically. "I'm so sorry, Morgan! I just can't bring you with me. There's things out there you're not ready to see yet. And I don't see what's so special about this trip to Beach City. I've never let you go places before."

"Oh," I looked down to the floor, trying to look as sorry as I could, so Mom would buy it. "Okay," I sighed sadly.

"I'm sorry, dear," Mom said as she poured a cup of coffee and began walking toward the door. "Well," She sighed and stepped past the threshold, "I'm off to Beach City! Bye!" She slammed the door to where I could feel the air blowing in my face.

I gasped in excitement. My plan had worked! Mom was gone, and I could jump over the fence!

I felt a rush of energy the second the house went quiet. Here was my chance! I burst through the door, and then shut it quietly, remembering my dad was still sleeping.

There, standing a few yards away from me, was the fence, that had shut me out all these years.

I knew I could do it, if I got a running start. I stepped off the concrete porch into cold, frost covered grass that sent a chill up my spine. I shivered. I felt another rush of energy, almost like the one I had before, but this time just different. It wasn't exactly adrenaline. It was the same feeling I had gotten when I had jumped on top of the roof a long time ago.

It was a light, happy, almost magical feeling.

I started to run. I felt light, like the wind. When I approached the fence, I jumped. What happened next, I could swear was magic.

I floated above the fence, and just hung there for a second. I felt like a bird, flying in the wind. I sunk back down and landed gently on my feet on the other side.

I had done it.

I was free.

I didn't take much time to celebrate my accomplishment, because I was too amazed by the world around me. It wasn't much different from looking through the fence, just lots of trees, but the big difference this time was that I was in them. And now I could see what else was in them, too.

I had no shoes on, but walking through the sticks and twigs on the ground didn't bug me. For the next hour, I saw birds and squirrels and different sorts of insects that I had never seen before.

Finally, the woods I was walking through ended, and it was just grass for miles. I scanned the horizon to find a barn, just about a mile away.

My mind rushed with thoughts. A barn! I smiled. A barn is sort of like a house, so that means there must be people around! Real people!

I started running, excited now that I would be able to meet someone besides Mom and Dad for once.

But I soon stopped, when I heard a loud and scratchy voice coming from a bush behind me. "Can't....Believe....Did that! Clod....Diamond!!!! Traitor!!!!" The voice said between sobs.

I cautiously peered through the bushes behind me to reveal a short girl sitting on the ground, running her fingers though her hair and muttering to herself.

I gasped. It's not what she was doing or what she was saying that surprised me. It's what she looked like. Her blonde hair was somehow styled into a perfect diamond, she wore green sunglasses-thingies, a green uniform with yellow diamonds on it, and the craziest thing was her skin was literally green. I looked down at my own skin to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

Nope. I wasn't.

But what really surprised me most was still not the skin color, but the green, shiny, triangular thing on her head. Just like my birthmark. Well, except for mine was pink, square, and on my palm. But still. She had a "birthmark", like me.

Lost in thought, I never noticed the green girl had stopped talking. And I never noticed she had been staring right at me.

But I did notice when she screamed. Loudly.
