"AHHH! Help me! Orville is trying to kill me!" Adiba shouted hysterically with Orville at her feet.
"Freeze!"
"Yeet!"
Both Orville and Adiba came to a stop, listening to their gym teacher.
"All right, ladies, before You leave please put away the materials,"
Their teacher, Michael, said.
"C'mon, Orville, let's go," Adiba said towards her best friend, Orville.
"Uhh. But I'm soooo tired,"Orville replied, dragging her feet on the gym floor.
Adiba just rolled her eyes.
"Fine. I'll go put these away."
Adiba grabbed the two rackets and the birdie and went to go put them away.
When she came back, Orville was gulping down water.
Adiba got her backpack and yelled at Orville.
"Orville, hurry up!"
"Just a sec," Orville said, putting a finger up.
Adiba sighed.
"Alright. Lets go," Orville said, jumping off the bleachers.
DING, DING, DING
Just as they were going to go on the staircase, something caught Orville's eye.
"Hey, Adiba--" Orville said while tapping her, "look."
"Huh?"
Adiba turned to where Orville was pointing.
And there it was, m- a dark, black book, lying on the floor.
Their curiousness got the best of them, and they decided to go take a look.
"Hmm. What a strange book. ' The Truth Behind Ancient Civilizations', and it looks as if the name of the author was ripped out" Adiba said, cautiously reaching out to touch the book.
Orville, mesmerized, also went to go touch the mysterious book.
As soon as their hands had touched the book, everything around them went dark.
"Whoa, what just happened!?" Orville said frantically.
Adiba looked around, seeing nothing but darkness.
"I-I don't know," Adiba said, her voice wavering.
They let their hands drop to their sides as they stood up, carefully.
"Does this have something to do with that book?" Orville asked.
Adiba nodded.
Of course since it was very dark Orville couldn't see it.
"Adiba!?" Orville shouted.
"Oh, right, it's dark. I think it does. Pass me the book again," Adiba replied.
Orville crouched down, relying on her senses to find the book. Her hand touched something hard and She immediately grabbed a hold of it.
"Here," Orville said, dusting herself off.
Adiba opened the book, a bright light blinding their eyes.
"Ow!"
Both of them rubbed their eyes, blinking a ton.
When they finally came back to their senses, they looked down at the book.
"Its-Its glowing," Adiba said in awe.
"Books aren't supposed to do that, right," Orville said, pointing at it.
Adiba smacked her hand.
"Of course not you idiot. Books aren't supposed to glow."
"Alright, alright. It was just a question," Orville said, rubbing her hand.
They regained their focus back to the glowing book.
Written on the first page was a number code:
"Do we have to break this code?" Orville said, utterly confused.
"I think so. But, this is all so weird. What are we doing here in The first place? We should be getting home by now," Adiba said, her frustration slowly turning into anger.
"Calm down, Adiba. Lets just solve this code. Maybe it will tell us why we are here," Orville said, shaking Adiba slightly.
"Alright. You have a pen and paper?" Adiba asked.
"On it," Orville replied, getting the items as quickly as possible.
"Thanks. Ok, so this is a number code but there are many possibilities. There are 26 letters in the Alphabet. First write The numbers then The letters," Adiba murmured to herself while jotting down on The piece of paper, using the light of the book to help her."'Collect the pieces, free me,'" Orville read aloud.
"Is it talking about us?"
"I'm not sure, but I hope not. Too many things are going on and they're not good things," Adiba said.
"Well, how about we turn to the next page and see what we find," Orville said, reaching out to flip the page.
"Wait, Orville we don'-"
But before Adiba could finish, Orville had already flipped the page, facing another glowing page.
A swirling air went around them and Adiba dropped the book in surprise.
"Ahh!"
And then, both girls went inside the book, leaving nothing but a sound of a book shutting close.
Ω
"Ugh," Orville groaned spitting sand out of her mouth.
Wait. Sand?
Orville looked around and saw that there was sand all around them with a very hot Sun at her back.
She then saw Adiba, who was currently trying to get sand out of her mouth and clothes as best as she could.
"Where are we?" Adiba said, her eyes quickly scanning The area.
"I don't know. I think- I think we got teleported here," Orville concluded.
Adiba let out a nervous laugh.
"That's not possible. We aren't supposed to be here at all," Adiba countered, getting up.
"Well, Adiba open your eyes. We are in the middle of the dessert. We should try to find a way back to where we belong. We should start at the beginning, where in the world are we," Orville said, looking around for anything that might give them a hint on where they are.
"Wait a minute. Where did the book go? Are we here because of that book," Adiba said, looking at The ground.
Orville frowned.
"Its not here. The code told us that we need to find the 'pieces' right? So, what if, lets say we find one of these pieces. The book has got to appear," Orville said to Adiba.
Adiba only nodded.
"The book was called "The Truth Behind Ancient Civillizations' right?" Adiba asked, her voice a bit shaky.
"Ye-ss, why do you ask," Orville asked, getting nervous.
"I think you might wanna look over there," Adiba said, pointing a shaky finger behind Orville.
Orville cautiously turned around, only to find herself looking at... people 're-constructing a holy site.
"Don't tell me we are in..." Orville didn't want to say it, realization then washed over her like a wave of cold water.
Adiba took a shaky breath.
"Yes, Orville. That book transported us to the past. We are in no 'dessert'. We're in Ancient Egypt, over around 7,000 years old from where we came from, and we have a mission. We need to find that piece."1 4 9 2 1
