"You have got to be kidding me!" Orville shouted.
Adiba quickly covered her mouth.
"Shh! We can't bring attention to ourselves. Remember, we're from the future in this era. We can't let them know that," Adiba explained to Orville.
"Sorry," Orville said.
"Its all right. C'mon, we need to investigate further to locate the piece," Adiba said as she started to walk.
Orville shook her head from her daze and followed.
It was a very hot day and from this distance, they could see many people.
Once they were close enough, they could see small children, running around naked, which Adiba found utterly disgusting while Orville was silently laughing. Men who were working wore loincloth or a short kilt and some of them wore a type of shirt. Women were wearing straight dresses with one or two shoulder straps.
"Um, Adiba. Would you mind looking down at yourself," Orville said, pointing at the outfit she was wearing.
Adiba, who was confused, slowly looked down only to see that she was wearing a straight dress with two straps.
She gasped and looked at Orville who had the same outfit as her.
"I guess the book wants us to fit in," Adiba muttered, hating the dress already. Orville didn't mind as long as it was comfortable.
They kept walking, hearing conversations here and there.
That's when Orville realized something.
"Adiba, can you understand what they're saying?"
Adiba nodded. "Yea... Hold on! How can we understand them? We aren't supposed to know what they're saying. We don't speak their language," Adiba said frantically.
"That means that We are speaking their language fluently, however to us it sounds like English," Orville concluded.
Adiba shook her head.
"Ok. We need to figure out what year it is. Maybe if we know who the pharaoh is..." Adiba trailed off.
She looked to her right and saw something that made her mind go haywire.
"I think I know who The pharaoh is, now. Building repairs on these damages-" Adiba pointed to the holy sites that were currently being repaired,"and the continuing of construction at the temple of Karnak. The pharaoh Is Tutankhamun, the 12th king of the 18th Egyptian dynasty."
Orville's eyes widened.
"Wow. You really pay attention to Social Studies."
"Shut up. Lets go, we came here to find that piece and I have a feeling that we are not leaving until we find this," Adiba said, continuing to walk.
Orville let out a huff of air and followed, looking around.
Ω
"Bread! Bread! Come and get your baked bread!" two girls shouted.
Adiba and Orville immediately recognized them.
"Melodie?"
"Kimora?"
Flashback:
"Jahin the ghost!! And Orvilllle!" Melodie sang in front of Adiba.
"Really, Melodie?"
-
"Orville! Did you hear about..." Kimora spoke excitedly.
"Wow, really?" Orville said, getting excited.
End of Flashback.
But, both girls didn't even glance at them.
Both Adiba and Orville glanced at each other with confused faces.
"Um, hello. What is your name?" Orville asked them.
Both girls turned around.
'Melodie' smiled, both of her dimples showing.
"Hello, my name is Maarit," She said, waving her hand.
"My name is Kalani," 'Kimora' said.
"Well, I'm Adiba," Adiba introduced herself.
"And I'm Orville," Orville said, waving back and smiling.
Both girls smiles immediately went away and turned into a serious expression.
"Just the people we were looking for," 'Melodie' said.
"Follow us."
Adiba and Orville didn't know what to do.
Should they or should they not?
Ω
"We know about your 'situation'. It is important that you find this piece in order to bring back peace to this community, and other ancient Civilizations.
Mummies are beginning to rise from the dead and many dangerous animals are appearing," 'Kimora' explained.
"So, where are you taking us?" Adiba asked curiously.
"As close as we can get to The place in which the piece is located. After that, It is up to you guys to retrieve it and get the other pieces,"'Melodie' told them, walking towards an underground chamber.
"Do you know the person who wrote the book?" Orville asked.
"Yes, the name was... the name was. That's odd. I have forgotten," 'Melodie' said, her face filled with confusion.
"We're here," 'Kimora' cut in, pointing towards a door.
"This is as far as we can go. Good luck!" 'Melodie told them.
"Thank y-"
ARGH!
The girls heard a growl erupting from their right and they all turned to the noise.
"Oh no, a mummy," 'Melodie said, her face turning grim.
Both Maarit and Kalani grabbed a dagger from their shoes, in a defensive stance.
"Haaaa!"
Both of them attacked the mummy, so engrossed with fighting that they didn't notice one in the background, coming from behind Maarit.
Orville charged at the mummy, closing her eyes.
She continuously punched and kicked the mummy, disgusted at the fact of touching it.
"Well, I must say, you do have quite the skills, Orville," Maarit complimented.
"Thank you," Orville said while bowing.
Suddenly, more mummies started to gush out through the entrance, bandages covering the floor.
"You must go now!" Kalani shouted, continuing to kill more mummies.
"We'll hold them off," Maarit said, heading back to fighting like a badass alongside Kalani.
Orville quickly joined up with Adiba and they entered the door. They shut it close. Inside there was a gigantic door, and walls painted in hieroglyphics.
Inscribed at the door was a riddle, something that Adiba was fairly good at.
"I come in many styles
Varying in length
Meanings as deep as earth's layers
That may rhyme as well
Who am I?"
Adiba thought about this for a moment, thinking deeply.
A poem. That's it.
Orville stood next to her, finishing the riddle.
"The answer is a poem. We need a poem to open this," Adiba explained.
"We'll go ahead 'master of poetry'. Work your magic," Orville said as she handed Adiba a small sheet of paper and a pen.
Alright, Adiba thought.
8 minutes later
"Done," Adiba said, getting up off the floor.
Orville stood beside her, skimming through the poem
She cleared her throat.
"Secrets, secrets
This door kept confined
What may show
To hurt my world
Open, open
Reveal to me
The sacred piece
To define what's
True
And to proclaim
What was once in control."
At first, Adiba thought that it wouldn't work.
That was until a noise so loud that the ground shook knocked them off their feet.
"Adiba! What did you Do!?" Orville shouted.
"I don't know!? I just did what it asked me to do!" Adiba shouted back.
The door started to lift up, revealing a room with a sarcophagus in The middle.
It was glowing.
Adiba gulped nervously.
"Is that supposed to be the 'piece'?" Adiba spoke, pointing to the glowing sarcophagus.
"I don't think the sarcophagus is considered a 'piece'," Orville said.
Adiba rolled her eyes.
"Not the sarcophagus you idiot. The glowing thing in the sarcophagus."
"Oh. Well then, let's grab this thing and go," Orville said as she's walked toward the glowing sarcophagus.
Adiba wasn't so sure that it was safe but followed behind Orville, making sure nothing suspicious would appear.
"Ready?" Orville asked, putting her hand on the lid of the sarcophagus.
"Ready."
They both lifted the lid, finding both a puzzle piece and the book.
"They're here!" Orville said, relieved.
Adiba let out a sigh.
"Phew, now let's get out of here."
Adiba got the puzzle piece, too relieved to even examine it properly and Orville got the book.
Before they could do anything, they heard little taps on The floor, almost as if something were walking towards them.
Adiba knew exactly what they were.
"Orville, don't freak out but those taps we hear. They're... Scorpions."
Orville's eyes widened in fear.
"Awh S$!#!. How do leave from here! I do not want to get killed!" Orville whispered frantically.
"Don't panic. Also that's the 500th time you cursed. Lets just-"
"They're here!"
Adiba turned around, only to be looking down at deadly looking scorpions.
"Run, run, run!" Adiba said, pushing Orville to run.
Adiba then saw a scorpion on Orville's shoulder, and felt one on hers
Both girls acted on instinct and placed each thing on top of each other.
Book under the puzzle piece.
The book glowed, absorbing the piece.
And just like that, they disappeared into thin air, screaming.
The other girls saw as they vanished.Mission complete.
