Chapter 1
School. Not where I belong at all. Don't get me wrong I love to learn I just don't.... Fit in. See I'm not your average sixteen year old. I have um.... Well wings. Fourteen feet across white owl wings.
No one knows of me at least I hope that's the case. I don't think the world would react kindly to a freak like me. My childhood is kind of a blur I don't remember much just snow random faces stuff like that. Then one day I remember someone telling me that I'm going to a school for the poor.
And now here I am. Scarlet Price. Sixteen years old. Red hair. One green eye and one blue eye. Stuck in a school for the less privileged. its not really a poor school it just seems that way because half the kids that go there a poor. It's a government school.
Life was really sucking at school when I met Soron. He was just your average guy. But my nickname for is Pluto. He wears all black and has ear length black spiky hair. Once you get to know him all he talks about is books and stuff. I used to read I think. I can't really remember. Sadly Soron doesn't know my secret.
And I don't intend to tell him. Ever.
Chapter 2
"Are you coming tonight, Scarlet?" asked Soron. He looked at me expectantly waiting for an answer.
"Well I don't know parties are really my thing..."
"Please? I don't want to go with out a date." He said looking at me with big Bambi eyes.
"Fine. But only because your my best friend!" I say laughing slightly. He smirked and walked over to his locker. Pulling his books out he waved to me and walked to his history class. I waved back and turned to head to my Spanish class.
I walked right into Jay the schools number one jock.
"Watch it carrot!" he says shoving me into the wall.
"It red idiot!" I yell back snarling at him. He laughs as his buddies surround him. "We'll see what's red when we finish with you!"
"Three against one? that seems really fair. But then again your all about fair." I say. That seems to make him mad. I grin. Then I take the heel of my converse and shove it into his knee. He releases me and grabs his knee howling in pain.
His buddies try to make a grab for me but I'm way to quick. I take the second one and hit him in the back of the legs. He falls to the floor with a solid 'thud'. Then I head to the third one. Before he knows what hit him I shove him against the wall and kick him where it counts.
I look at the clock. It took less then two minutes. "Good thing I'm all about fair too!" I say smiling. Then I turn and run off to class.
Two hours later I'm leaving detention. But it was still totally worth it.
"Where have you been?!" Soron yells at me. He grabs my face and holds it in his hand. Then he sees the smirk on my face.
" Fighting? Again?" I nod. He looks at me in the eyes. Hard. "Who? who have you been fighting with? this is the third time this month!"
"I already got grilled from the teachers I don't need it from you!" I yell. I try to shove him away but he grabs me tight. He usually doesn't act like this. Like a big brother.
"Jay. Him and his gang of pure breed idiots." Soron, who I thought would release me after I told him, gripped me tighter. So hard my wings started aching. He looked him in the eye and kissed me. He holds me for a few seconds then releases me. Definitely not a big brother.
"Soron I-.... I don't know what to say." I look into his eyes and he looks away. He opens his mouth to say something but the bell rings and turns and walks off. I stand there. His kiss still lingering on my lips. His black hair tickling my skin. I smile. I have a boyfriend! then I realize I can't have a boyfriend because I'm a mutant freak with wings.
"What I have I done?" I say out loud. I run after him but he is in class. I write a not and put it on his locker. Then I run out side in to the woods nearby the school. Once I'm sheltered I unfurl my wings and take flight.
My mind becomes clear and I soar far away from school. From Jay and his mucking friends. From the scolding teachers and the preppy girls who laugh at my old orphan clothes. For now I'm free.
Fly over the orphanage were I stay. And I spit on it. I hate that place. All the pity. All the jokes. One time and idiot ask me while I was on the grounds reading of my parents had been murder by Voldemort. He stuck in face in between and bars of the fence and laughed. Then I punched him in the face. That was the first time I really got in trouble but not the last.
When I finally arrived at your meeting place (A little pond with a huge rock over looking it) I was surprised to see that Soron was already there. At least his backpack was. I swooped down.
"Soron!" I yelled looking around for him. No answer. I glance nervously around. But no one steps out from the shadows.
Suddenly a hand grabs me from behind. I bit it but it grasps me harder. "Soron!" I yell muffled by the hand. "I'm right here sweetie. Just relax it will be over soon. Please don't struggle you'll only make it worse. Trust me." I shove the hand over a little. "You lying son of a-" then a scratchy bag is pulled over my head. The last thing I see is Soron smirking.
