Just a simple error

My head was throbbing, I don't know when the pain started, but it happened sometime after I awoke. My hands were aching, having them recently tied behind my back clearly meant they had trust issues. No matter, I'll just burn my restraints...if I could summon a strong enough flame....ah, it's useless now, I'm far too weak to fight back now. Ever since she took control, we've been getting multiple beatings.

"I swear, her ruling is worse than Tomoe's..." I whispered to myself.
"You can say that again..." Said Mei, turning towards me while resisting the urge to puke.
"So, how's life going over on your side?" He asked, "Just like hell...yours?" I replied, "Same as always."
"To think we got stuck here thanks to a simple error..." We said at the same time, as if we were rehearsing that line for weeks.

"I should've forgiven you sooner, brother.." Mei said.
"We're not related." I retorted.
"But we're still family." He contradicted as he smirked towards me. "You should really sit up."
"Nah, I think the floor loves me. Besides, it's far more comfortable than the bed."
"Fair enough..." He said, "you know, for being friends you never told me your name."
"You already know that, silly," I said, "it's Ayato."
"I know that! But I want your true name..." He practically shouted at me.
'My true...name?' I stared at the corner in slight shock and confusion.
Mei frowned at me. "So you don't remember either?" He said sadly. I looked at him, analyzing every feature of his face. He had various bruises and cuts around his cheeks, I suspect this was Serah's work.

I teared up slightly, remembering about the broken family we were:
An only child with a rightful crown.
A tainted soul who only wants his sister back.
And an error in DNA which led to mutation.

Meeting in the first place was the worst of all errors.
