Chapter 2

"How light carries on endlessly, even after death. With shortness of breath, you explained the infinite. How rare and beautiful it is to even exist."

-Saturn, Sleeping at Last

A/N: I had to change some points and places in time for my story to make sense. Also the child in the gif is little Eleana but the gif is from a Magnificent Century.

Oberyn bathed in the sun, the past few days had been racked with a terrible anger at those who raped Elia, killed her children, and then killed her. It took all he could not to take up banners and ride against Tywin Lannister, but seeing Eleana's face and how she crawled to him with a mischievous smile on her face, brown eyes gleaming in the sunlight streaming in her newly minted nursery. "You are my only reason, the only sunshine I have left." Looking into those eyes, the ones that seemed to mirror those that he wished with everything he had in him that he could see them one last time. But then he realized in Elia's death, she had left a piece of herself with them.

And he knew then that his desire for revenge would be taken aback to the babe on his lap, it was for her well-being that he would not take up arms and ride against headfirst into the den of lion's that had mutilated his sister.

He thought, everything I do from this point on would weigh heavy on her well being. I cannot put my feelings above hers. Elia would never do that to her child. She would always put her child above herself. And, that is what I am going to do from now on I live solely for her, and her alone.

With this mentality he devoted his every waking moment into shaping Eleana into a woman her mother would be proud of, a woman who would rule Dorne with an air of particular grace and above all keep justice during her reign.

"I am here for you always my Eleana, always I will be here to prevent you from living the life your mother lived. That will never happen to you, not as long as I have breath and my heart beats in my chest. I pledge everything I am, everything I ever will be to you, my dearest little one."

"Ah, the sweetest water-lily in the reflection pool has floated my way. I do not think I shall ever sat her back down, but keep her with me forever." Oberyn smiled as he picked Eleana up as she ran around the gardens, her dark waves flowing behind her. She was six now, and he couldn't help but think, what a shame it is that her mother is not her to watch her have the childhood she so desperately wanted for her.

"I am not water-lily, uncle!" Eleana looked up at him, and for a split second he thought he was looking into the face of Rheager Targeryan, though she may not posses the classical silver-blonde hair and piercing purple eyes- that look she gave him was nothing but dragon fire. He had to stop himself from frowning; after all she was born of the dragon. She was unlike his sweet sister Elia, who was rare in that she had no thorns. Yet Eleana had thorns made of steel, which he knew would be capable of cutting down even the most seasoned men.

"Then, what are you?" He chuckles, even though from time to time she reminds him of Rheagar and what his actions did to his sister-her mother. He could not help but to see her mother in her the next time he looked into those big-brown doe eyes.

"I am a viper!" Eleana proclaimed proudly as she jumped from his lap and paraded around the gardens of Sunspear with a grin painted on her face.

Oberyn gets up from his seat beside the reflection pool and begins to chase his little sun around the gardens, "And like the viper your proclaim to be, you to take shelter in the grass."
