A/N. Sorry about how historically inaccurate this is but it's based of the selection so yeah. And there are only 13 candidates cause 13 colonies but they might not be from the right colony so sorry! Hope you like it! Also, it's mostly told from Peggy's POV but some parts won't be and I'll let you know if it's not. Sorry this is super shitty!!
P. S. The dress drawings at the top are supposed to be the dresses she's wearing in each chapter fyiThis is it. One of the biggest days of my life. Today I will meet the man who will become my future husband. Of course, I don't know who it is yet, but today I'm picking 13 men to be candidates for my selection.
If you're wondering, I'm Margarita Schuyler, Princess of America, soon to be Queen. Even though I have a brother, Phillip, I was still given heir to the throne because I'm the eldest out of my sisters, Angelica and Eliza, and Phillip Jr. My parents are King and Queen, Phillip and Catherine Schuyler. I remember my mom telling me about how my father picked her in his selection, and now I am about to do the same.
I sigh deeply as my maid, Maria, adds the final touches to my hair. I am about to randomly pick one man from each colony to participate in the selection in front of everyone, and I'm super nervous.
"Thank you Maria" I say as she holds out a mirror. "It looks amazing".
"Oh it was my pleasure Peggy" she responds sweetly. All servants and anyone of a lower rank than me are supposed to address me as "Your Highness", but I asked Maria to simply call me Peggy. It just feels friendlier, and that I'm only human to them, which they offer forget since I'm going to be Queen and have been living like royalty my whole life.
I stand up and give Maria a hug before smoothing out my silly yellow dress.
"You're the best" I say smiling as I head to the filming studio. When I get there, my parents are already waiting with Phillip and Angelica and Eliza are just arriving. I sit in my usual seat when father is giving announcements and before I know it, he's calling me up to pick the young men who will compete to be prince. I'm so nervous I can barely focus on my speech.
"Ladies, Gentlemen, non-binary. Citizens of America. As you may know, I, Peggy Schuyler, will be hosting my own selection to find a husband throughout the next few months. My father held a selection when he was my age right now, and as his heir to the throne, I will do the same. I am ready to become Queen and before me, I have the names of my future possible suitors. I will randomly pick one lucky man from each colony who will compete in the selection with every other man to win my love and become the new king of America" I could feel my palms sweating and my heart beating faster. I reach into the first box and pull out a random piece of paper. "From Delaware, we have Gilbert de Lafayette", I announced. I paused for a moment and continued with the rest of the boxes. "From Pennsylvania, we have Hercules Mulligan! From New Jersey, we have Thomas Jefferson! From Georgia, we have Charles Lee! From Connecticut we have James Reynolds! From Massachusetts we have James Madison! From Maryland, we have George Eacker! From South Carolina, we have John Laurens!" I begin to think about all the boys who are seeing their name being called. They're probably sitting in front of the TV with their family, beaming, or even screaming out of joy. I smile to myself as I think about how happy they must be, and continue announcing the names. "From New Hampshire we have Robert Sampson! From New York we have Alexander Hamilton! From Virginia we have George Washington! From North Carolina we have John Adams! And last but not least, from Rhode Island, we have James Monroe! Thank you for all listening! I look forward to meeting those of you who are selected shortly!" I conclude as the lights go down. I smile to myself, knowing that it'll only get crazier from here.
One week later, I'm standing in the great dining hall, waiting to meet the contestants who've recently arrived and have been fixed up and already had their first interviews with reporters. I was going to introduce myself to them and then try to meet with each of them individually. The begin to file in and stand in a straight line in front of me.
"Hello gentlemen! You all probably know me, as I am Peggy Schuyler, which is what I prefer you to address be as, and I am the princess of America. I look forward to meeting you all and marrying one of you! I will allow you to eat amongst yourselves, but I will also be meeting with each of you individually so we can get acquainted" I say before sitting down. My parents are at the large, royal table, but tonight I've decided to eat at the long table with the boys. I seat myself at the head of the table, but leaving enough room between me and the others to be able to talk to them privately without being disturbed. As food is beginning to be served, I call the first boy up. "Alexander?" A boy with dark, long hair and tan skin stands up and moves into the chair next to me. "Please, sit down, make yourself comfortable" I gesture towards the chair.
"Thank you your highness" he responds, bowing his head.
"Please, you can just call me Peggy. Or Margarita if you still wish to be formal. And you don't have to bow your head if you don't want to" I say.
"Thank you Your Highn- I mean Peggy. Sorry" he stutters.
"It's alright, don't apologize, nobody's perfect! Were all only human after all" I say back kindly.
"Why do you perfect to be called by your name? You're royalty after all. Why don't you want that?" Alex questions.
"I don't really know. I guess it just feels like it's too much at times" I confess.
"That makes sense" Alex shrugs.
"So, what are your interests?" I ask.
"I enjoy writing and some sports. I was on the boxing team at my school back in New York" He says.
"That's interesting!" I say back. "Well, I wish we could talk longer, but I have 12 other people to meet with tonight. I look forward to speaking with you again!" I say as I send him off. Most of the other introductions go well. Some of the boys were boastful, many were nervous, most of them were nice like Alexander but some were just plain old rude. They'll probably be going soon. However, I'm trying not to make any hasty decisions and attempting to go on a date with everyone before I kick them off. As I lay in bed, recalling the events of the day, I begin to plan out which boys I would like to take on dates first.
