Chapter 2

After eating breakfast with the boys, I decided to take the first one on a date. After discussing it for a while last night with Maria, I decided to start with George Washington of Virginia. He seemed nice enough at the interview and was pretty handsome.  Maria also helped me pick out an outfit that was nice but still pretty casual. She decided to combine a shorter dress with a blazer and simple black heels.  I put on my finishing touches of makeup and Maria gave me a friendly kiss on the cheek. I started walking to George's room and I passed Eliza who was walking to the gardens. It's funny how she's my real sister but I'm much closer with Maria.  I hardly get to see Eliza and Angelica since the palace is so big, so I always confide in Maria. I'm basically an open book when I'm with her. And she's pretty honest with me too.  I find myself smiling when I think about Maria as I approach George's room. I pull myself back into attention and knock on his door.
"Good afternoon George" I say smiling as he opens it.
"Good afternoon Your Highness" George says back formally.
"Are you ready?" I ask.
"Yes" He says as I take his hand. We walk down to the gardens. It's a bit awkward at first, and neither of us seem to know what to talk about. I try to recall the things he said at dinner last night.  We eventually talk about his life at home and how he wanted to be a soldier before he was selected. We didn't seem to have very much in common. It wasn't the most interesting of dates, but then again I had nothing to compare it too. Maybe we'd have more to talk about as time went on.  I decided to keep him for awhile. Just because we don't have much in common doesn't mean I should send him home right away. I mean, George was still kind and likable. And pretty attractive too.  After I escort him to his room and head back to mine, I find Maria eager to talk about how it went.
"So, how was the first date?" She says smiling. I explain to her how it went.
"So I'm still going to keep him around. He didn't do anything to hurt me or anything. So why send him home now?" I conclude to her.
"I think that's the right choice Peggy. And you could grow to love him more later" she responds, looking up at me on my bed. I look down at her smiling. For some unknown reason, seeing her smile makes me especially happy, more so than anyone else, even my own sisters.  I realize I'd been staring at her smile for several minutes. I dart my eyes away from her and stand up to start preparing for dinner.
A/N: Sorry this chapter is so short! So I'm probably going to focus a lot of chapters like this on the dates, and those will be shorter.  They all might be pretty short actually, but I'll write a lot of chapters so don't worry! And tell me what you think in the comments!
