1962THE SUN rose high in the sky. Heat grew upon the old sandlot field. A tan boy and girl stood in the hotness, throwing around a baseball to each other. Nothing seemed to stop them from playing. Eight other boys stood in a dug out, watching the pair's every move as they bickered about them.
Alan McCleannan and Latia Santana were best friends and everyone in the entire neighborhood knew that. They would go to each other's houses, invite themselves to lunch, and do other such things. "Does anyone know if Yeah Yeah has the hots for her?" Hamilton, the chubby freckled boy, asked out of the blue. None of the guys had responded to his question.
Latia was the girl who had the boys' attention. Whenever she hit a homer, she'd just move her hips and laugh at the guys' reactions afterwards. Her personality was wild. When people look at her or whisper things, that girl would not give a damn! The boys like the fact she likes to joke around and play rough with them. She's actually mostly kind to Tommy and Smalls for some unknown reason.
The teen girl doesn't seek romance with any of the kids. Heck, she even told them all herself she didn't wanna be involved with boyfriends. But for Yeah Yeah, most of the crew think she has this sort-of crush on him when she actually doesn't whatsoever.
All the boys, even Benjamin Rodriguez, never knew that girl would be on their own team. Truthfully, they'd only think she was pretty attractive, but good at playing some old baseball? Nope, they wouldn't even dare to think that.

I smiled at the boy in front of me, "C'mon!" He then threw the baseball and I caught it swiftly. Alan has been my guy best friend. I know he will always be. I just hope none of that changes. When our friendship breaks, I'd be sad for a long time. But if it wasn't for me, I would be have been stuck home watching T.V. this very instant. Honestly, I'm glad I made that choice of walking through here and meeting these lovable boys.
My mind just had one question; what if I grow strong feelings for my best friend? I quickly shook my head as I threw the ball back to Alan. I doubt that would happen. I mean, he's just a boy. Laughing to myself, I placed my attention back onto our small game of catch.
