Everything just happened too fast.
Again, for the third time now, the big hand hurled her little, already shattered frame to the ground. It became harder for her to keep her eyes open instead of finally feeling the relief of sleeping. But she still used the least bit of strength to stay awake in that forlorn situation.
The hand picked her up again, but this time, he didn't smash her into the ground. No, he threw her as hard as possible against the rocks. Hearing her bones crack and tasting the blood that filled her mouth, she could finally close her eyes and let the darkness replace the light. Strength faded away and was replaced by relief.
(Some days before)
"Levy, Levy!"
The solid script mage turned around to see her friends running towards her, a piece of paper folded in Jet's hand.
"Hey guys, did you find a new job?". When they nodded, her heart beat faster, excited what it would be. She always loved the jobs she made together with her team and by the view of their expression, they found an interesting job. Jet handed the sheet of paper over and she read it fascinated.
The library I own got destroyed after a heavy storm last week. I look for some helpers to fix the damages and rearrange the books again. A few of them need to be translated in another language as well. On the way to my home, there could be a few bandits as well, so be prepared to fight against them.
Whoever takes this job, I'll be very generous if the task is completed like I imagined.
The reward is at least 500 000 jewels."How did you find this one?", she asked with a big smile. Early this morning, she went to the request board as well, but she couldn't find such a perfect mission for their team. Books, translations and fighting a few bandits. And then that reward! The next few weeks, she didn't need to worry about her rent anymore.
Droy took the paper again and explained excitedly.
"It hung behind one of the others, so you missed it maybe.
Be ready tomorrow at 8:00! See you at the train station Levy".With these words, her friends ran out of the library she had spent all day long. She looked after them, then turned her head back down to finish the book she was halfway through.
Behind her, hiding in the shadows of the house, stood Gajeel. His big frame was like every other day covered by his big coat and the white trousers. He walked over to her, only keeping a distance of a few centimeters. Levy relaxed immediately when he approached her. With him by her side, she was safe. But something was wrong. His body was tensed up and he walked around her so she stood with her back to the wall. Gajeel observed the whole street but he didn't relax when he saw no one there beside her. Something was definitely wrong.
"Gajeel, you scared me! What's wrong, do you need somethi-", she said and looked up at him, facing his stiff face. He faced her and laid both hands on her shoulders, pulling her closer to him.
"You shouldn't go on missions with them". She sighed and looked down to the ground. Why couldn't they just behave and be at least nice to each other?
"How do you know we accepted a new job request?" Gajeel sighed.
"'Heard them talking about it in the morning. Shrimp, think about it. You always got hurt with them and it won't change until they increase their strength and magical abilities! Maybe ya should only go on missions with Lily and me ". She couldn't believe what he said, but at least he didn't just think about it like Jet and Droy, he revealed his opinions. If she liked it or in that case, not.
"They are my friends Gajeel, my teammates. Nothing bad is going to happen. And if I get hurt a little, it's okay because they did all they could to protect me. Sometimes it's nice to see how someone needs your help. When you aren't just useless and watch the fight from the outside".
