~ Hey guys, so this is my first story on Wattpad and it was also a dare.  Myself and my friend gave each other titles to write and see who gets the most reads by the Christmas holidays...  So I'd be really grateful if you could spread it around between your fans or people you've fanned.  Thanks and I hope you enjoy! ~

It was the first day of the new term and it had begun just like I'd planned it.  I arrived to school with just enough time to show off my summer tan and say hello to my friends.  The school building was clean and fresh but it wasn't likely to stay that way for long.  You see, my school isn't exactly normal, per say.

Avery High School is a special school, just not in the conventional sense.  All of the students here were born with genetic mutations, only we're more X-Men than anything else.

Even better again, is each mutation has a particular niche in the school and we rarely blur the boundaries.  The Weres are the jocks, the Vamps are the arty/musical/philosphical kids (of course, when you have eternity, you're gonna be inclined to ponder the meaning of things, right?) and then there's my group.  They call us Minds.  I mean that's the actual official government name for us.

But unlike normal nerds, we're the popular ones.  Us and the Weres.  One of whom I happened to be dating.

Caleb was the quarterback / swim captain / track star / alpha male kinda boyfriend every girl dreams of.  He was tall, dark and oh, wow, so, so, SO hot!  We go so well, together.  I am as blonde as his is dark and I'm a slim as he is muscular.  We're a perfect juxtaposition!

On that particular Monday, I found him shooting hoops with some of his friends in our state-of-the art gymnasium.  (Mutant kids are usually pretty well off and they need a lot of energy to keep them 'normal', especially the Weres).  When he saw me, he dropped the ball and bounded over to me, sweeping me into his arms.  This gesture was met with a mixture of sighs, wolf-whistles and cat-calls.  I just grinned, enjoying the attention.

"What's up, Penny?"  Caleb asked, when he put me back on the floor.

"Nothing really, babe, just about to get to class," I relied, appraising his messy hair down to his too-big sneakers.

"Oh, okay..."

Something wasn't right.  I could tell straight away.  Not even because I was a Mind, or because the Weres aren't the deepest of personalities.  Caleb's eyes wouldn't meet mine and he was fidgetting with his shirt.  Something was deffinitely up.

"I gotta go," I said, trying my best to hide the suspicion in my voice.  "I don't want to be late to class..."

"'Kay, bye," he replied.  He didn't even stoop down for a kiss, he just turned back around and lopped back to his friends, who were busy gawping at us.

I waved and stalked out of the gym and headed for class.
