~Hypothermia is the condition of having an abnormally low body temperature. (Usually dangerously low)

~A cat may get hypothermia when they are in cold weather for a long period of time or in cold water for a long time or they are wet in cold weather for a long amount of time (e.g a cat is wet from rain and there are very low temperatures)

~If a cat does not warm up quickly enough they can die from the lack of heat in their body. (If a cat wants to warm up they will usually lick thei fur the wrong/opposite way.)

Symptoms:

- violent shivering

- blood flow will be restricted (ears and feet will become cold due to lack of blood)

- cat will become drowsy

- heart rats and breathing will slow and the cat will eventually slip into a coma

Other causes of Hypothermia:

- Shock

- overwhelming infection (toxic shock)

- anaesthesia

- malnutrition (lack of proper nutrition)

- diseases of the hypothalamus (area of brain which regulates body temperature)

~A tip for knowing which condition is which:
- Hypothermia rhymes with low (as in low temperatures)
-Hyperthermia = think of when you are hyper, you are high in energy (so think of high temperatures)
