I instinctively look away. But I could feel him watching my every move. This creature however was insanely growling at me and it was definitely doing my head in.
A few moments passed and all was quiet, not even a whimper was made. I glance back down and see that the strange boy and the weird looking creature was nowhere to be seen. I close my eyes and allow myself to breathe calmly. Maybe he’s going to get someone or perhaps he had just left, I mean its not that weird I’m sitting on a tree plus he doesn’t even know who I am so what harm could it have done?
I should probably get a move on before someone else finds me, someone like Parker, I have to find a way out of this place but wait I haven't a clue where I am.
I gradually open my eyes, I look up and instantly yelp while wincing back. I was filled with unimaginable terror. There the same boy sat directly opposite me on the branch with, he was looking intently at my face , like as if I wasn’t human.
“Err...hi”
His low husky voice seemed to have grabbed my attention
“W..wh..What do you want”
What the hell are you doing? You sound like a helpless baby, jheeze he’s just a normal person, who obviously can climb really fast.
“Look I don’t mean any harm, you looked kinda lost not to mention your’re on a tree”
His smirk agitates me and I glare back at him
“ Umm..How did you err… get on top of the tree so quick?”
I give him a questioning look
“Oh, you know I just teleported here,” he says casually and shrugs
What! Is this guy mental or something? I don’t understand how every person I’ve met so far is acting a bit loco
“Errr...you know I’m really not in the mood for jokes” I say firmly
His eyebrows arch up
“Oh trust me I’m not joking”
He then leans back and fiddles with the tree’s leaves
“I’m sorry but what did you just say?”
“Listen it will make more sense later, now lets get you down…”
“I’m not moving anywhere until I get some answers Mr !” I reply getting even more tense
“Your a stubborn little girl aren’t you”
I give him a scowl and fold my arms
He lets out a sigh
“I think it would be better if you’d come down, its getting late and I bet you're hungry”
Perhaps its not such a bad idea, I mean I have nowhere else to go but what if this is all a trap? What if this weird freak of a guy, is here to kidnap me ? And what about that ghoulish creature, for all I know it could slash open my flesh into pieces.
“No thank you I’m perfectly fine”
“Oh, I see you're perfectly fine,” he replies, acerbically
I look at him and the corner of his mouth twitches slightly
“Well in that case you must be a very remarkable person indeed”
He looks straight at me , his deep green eyes twinkled against the light
“Excuse me…”
I admit I felt kind of freaked out right now…
He shovels closer , without breaking eye contact
“You see, up here the air temperature reaches to about two hundred and fifty degrees or so and you know why?”
He draws in closer
“Well you see this very tree you’re sitting on is known as the Furyyew tree, mainly because of all the trees out here, when it reaches past 9pm it actually burns up, killing every single being in a matter of minutes. What's extraordinary is that the tree itself dosen't get harmed”
His face showed no emotion whatsoever.
Me on the other hand had my entire face scrunched up as I could swear it was about to explode from the most utter rubbish I've ever heard in my lifetime
“And you see, its very remarkable for any person to survive that, very remarkable indeed” he similes
“You're not normal,” I whisper
“Oh who says I’m normal, in fact this entire place is not normal and I think you’ll find that you're not as normal as you think, Lyla”
My eyes widen, the smug look upon his face seemed to have mentally drown me.
His hand slowly reached towards my shoulder blade but my mind was frozen, how on earth did he know my name? His firm but soft fingers gripped me however I was lost in space but then I felt a nudge.
And there once again I falling, like an orange blazed leave, dwindling down motionlessly, I was taken by suprise. I felt the cool air rush over my face and the large oak tree getting smaller by each second, yet I did not feel any anger nor pain.
Instead I closed my eyes and waited. Waited for the moment where my back would pound against the graveled ground, and where a series of sharp, electric static pain would shoot up across my spine, resulting to the most extrem pain that any human would have to anguish.
Seconds passed then minutes. I was confused. Why hasn't anything happened yet?
Eventually I open my eyes and see that the same pecuiliar boy was looking down at me , grinning. Only then do I relise he was carrying me in his arms.
"You ok there," he smirks
"Put me down this instant you FREAK," I yell out
He frowns and before I knew it I landed butt first on the ground.
"Your welcome by the way," he says flatly
I force myself to stand up
"You pushed me off a eight foot tree, I could have died!"
"Actually I saved you from being baked and it was the only way to bring you down"
A moment passed
"I want the truth -
Who are you?
How do you know me?
And how on earth did you climb up and down the tree so quick," I say, firmly
He was about to reply but then a series of rustling was coming from behind me. I turned around and find that Parker and two rather baffeled men were stading directly in front of me.
"Ahh Jasper I see that you have found Lyla," says Parker with a deep voice
