Ravenous

The only thing that could be heard in the pitch black darkness was both of our heavy breathing. I heard a thud overhead and I automatically assumed that one of my siblings just got thrown to the ground.

Silence.

Darkness.

The door to the attic slowly crept open and my older brother, Lucas, quickly grabbed my arm and pulled us both against the wall beside the staircase so we couldn't be seen. He pulled his gun out of the waistband of his tattered jeans and aimed it at the bottom of the staircase. I could see his hands trembling in the dim light that came from the opened door. I knew that he didn't have the guts to shoot the gun. As soon as I heard a couple of creaks from the stairs, I grabbed the gun out of his trembling hands and whipped around the corner. As soon as my target was in view, I pulled the trigger.

Bang.

Blood splatter.

Screaming.

My father's lifeless body soon fell down the stairs and left its image imprinted in my mind forever.

I was only 10 years old.

********  PRESENT DAY ********

"Hurry up Lucas, we're going to be late!" I yelled up the stairs before running back into my office and grabbing the last of the papers that I needed.

"Don't rush me! I'm older than you!" I rolled my eyes at him and made my way to the front door. We are leaving to go visit our mother back home in Nebraska. We are currently living in Indiana. We never liked going back to our childhood home since the incident in the basement. It has been 15 years since I shot my own father, I am 25 years old now and I have come a long way since then, obviously. Lucas and I decided to move in together when I turned 20 and he turned 24. The four-year age gap doesn't really make a difference, since I have more balls than he does.

I walked outside into the December cold to be greeted by four men standing by my black range rover. They didn't look happy. "Are you Karenna Jackson?" The burly one asked me as he took a step forward.

"No." I lied, "What do you need her for?" I asked whilst taking a step forward as well.

"We have a message from Codie Lechowski."

I whipped out my gun and quickly shot all four of them between the eyes. Codie Lechowski has been trying to kill me for a couple of months since I accidentally killed his wife in a car crash. The asshole didn't even ask if I was okay, which I was by the way.... just a couple of minor fractures and bruises.

I looked at all of the bodies lying on the ground and quickly devised a plan to hide them. Put them in the neighbor's yard. I hauled them all one-by-one over to Mr. Leonard's back yard and cleaned up the evidence as fast as I could before Lucas came out of the house. I kicked at the dirt in the driveway to try and cover up the blood stains and it partially worked but I wasn't that worried about it.

You may be wondering how I am so calm when it comes to shooting down four guys and cleaning up the evidence. Any normal person would have freaked out and probably turned themselves in out of guilt.

When I turned 17 I joined a gang. I got kicked out of my mom's house when I was 16. I lived on the streets for six months before Maurice found me or vice versa. He pulled me off of some chick at a bar, funny story.

******** FLASHBACK ********

I sat down on the barstool and looked at all of the bottles of expensive alcohol on the shelf in front of me. I can't believe the guard actually let me in, I look like I am twelve years old. I guess a fake ID can really get you in anywhere!
