My heart pounded to the beat of my feet racing over the hard ground. Sweat beaded my forehead, causing my hair to cling to it as my throat ached for air, more air. The delicious rush of the wind past my face thrilled me. My muscles stretched, pushed harder. My pace evened out and my legs made the track fly under me.
I surrendered myself to the miraculous beat of my feet against the ground. The angry pitter-patter of the soles of my shoes hitting the track. It was the way I always released my energy, and that's exactly what was happening now. I was elated, my soul at its summit, I was running and I was free.
Running was my only escape from reality. Since I just ran around the field three times, I think it's time to face the music. I quickly hit the showers and changed into less sweaty and decent clothes.
I decided to go and surprise Edward at the college. I wanted to see his new office since his department moved. Plus that whole incident with his friends talking about another girl in Edward's life. Without even saying her name. All they kept repeating over and over again is how Edward can do such a thing to her. What are they talking about? And more importantly, what the hell did he do to her? They looked like they had a lot to talk about, but the minute they saw me, they stopped talking. One of them looked at me like I was a lost puppy.
Plus, I wonder if Emmett knew anything about this mysterious woman that I can't seem to get out of my head. Maybe it's just my mind playing tricks on me. I'm going to lose my mind. At least Alice is happy with him. They looked absolutely adorable last night.
The faint sound of crickets could be heard singing in the background while a cool breeze flowed through the leaves of the large oak tree stood in the front yard. The old tire hanging from a weather-worn rope swung back and forth with the wind.
"Ms. Swan, it's Saturday. You're supposed to be enjoying your weekend." Ron, the security guard greeted me with a smile as I walked in through the double doors.
"Catching up on some work, Ron. Shouldn't take too long." I smiled as I passed him.
Ron had been head security for as long as I could remember. He should be retiring soon. I thought to myself while I guessed how old he would probably be. The building was enormous so I probably would have imagined someone looking after it on the weekend as well.
I walked through the corridor where the elevator was already waiting for me as I stepped in and pushed the button up to the 14th floor. This building was full of different kinds of offices. His office was located a couple feet from the elevator and call me paranoid, but I ran to my door. I pulled in the handle; locked, but of course it would be. It's Saturday Bella, you should be out shopping with Alice or hitting the gym with Julie.
A cherry desk that seems almost superfluous, since there's little to no paperwork to be seen. A deep burgundy leather desk chair, that reclines to an almost obscene angle. There are only two small table lamps - one near the door atop a wicker table that clashes with the rest of the room's executive motif, and another on the cherry wood desk with a long brass pull-cord. The absence of overhead light casts shadows into the corners, spilling under the desk and over top the framed black-and-white pictures on the wall.
The deep purple curtains are drawn to one side, allowing the light from outside the second story window to paint the eastern wall. It highlights alone filing cabinet, suspiciously locked and coated in dust.
Surprisingly there was one unpacked box under his desk. Well, that's strange. Kneeling down, I opened the box. It contained lots of broken picture frames with ripped pictures. Every ripped picture had a black star on the back of it. And weirdly enough they were all pictures of Edward. In a suit. Every picture. I shoved all ten pictures into my bag. In between, one of the picture frames was a note. It was written in cursive.
