AUTHOR'S NOTE

This is my first attempt at writing fan fiction,  so please be nice. As it says in the description, this is about a girl named Ellie, who travels with the Doctor.  I don't know what is really going to happen to them over the course of this story yet, so please bear with me. I hope you enjoy!

The Doctor was knocking on my bedroom door impatiently. "Ellie! Please, for the love of anything, hurry up! You wanted a night out, but if you don't hurry up, you won't get there in time to have it!"

Inside my room, I sighed.  He was always impatient. When I met him for the first time three years ago, he had been the same way. Different face, different body, but still the same man, always moving on,  no time to stop and take a break. That was one of the many reasons that I had begged ( alright, more like I hadn't shut up for two hours, to the point where he was willing to do anything if I would stop) the Doctor for this one chance to go to the party after we saved the world. Also, being the total fashionista that I was, I was not one to pass up a perfectly good opportunity to look amazing. Which was why I had been in my room for the last hour and a half.

The TARDIS had given me at least ten different dresses to choose from and I had narrowed it down to three. They were all gorgeous: the first one was mint green, and sleeveless, with pale gold strappy heels and white elbow length gloves, very old Hollywood. The next one might be a little bit harder to pull off, but I could do it, given enough time; it was a legit ball gown, fairytale-princess pink,  absolutely dripping with strings of pearls and ruffles. It sounds very over the top and unwearable, but the overall effect was very pretty and romantic. The third dress, however, was my absolute favorite.  My being able to wear it all depended on one thing though. ...

"Doctor,  what shoes are you wearing?" I called through the door.

" My blue Converse. " He shouted back.  That was a relief. I had learned the hard way that some planets were very serious about their dress code. If you showed up with a hemline half an inch shorter than was considered acceptable,  you could be thrown in jail.  If the Doctor was wearing his sneakers with the tux I had seen him wearing earlier, I could get away with my dress.

What on earth(or any other planet) was taking that girl so long? She would look amazing in a bin bag, let alone some fancy designer thing the TARDIS had provided. As I sat outside her door, I seriously considered what I had just thought. Did I have a crush? On Ellie? This couldn't end well. I had loved  Rose, and look at what had happened to her! True, she was safe and sound with her parents, and,  well, me, but not me. That was actually a good thing though.  Durring the months when Rose had left me the first time,  I had severed as much of our bond as I could to make it less painful. As a consequence, by the time the universe was ending, I had almost no romantic feelings left for her. The human version of me had no problem like this though,  and was free to love whoever he wanted without a problem. I hated being a Time Lord sometimes. It was a miserable life, when the only people you cared about could whither and die in a heartbeat.

"Doctor?" I was jolted out of my sudden depression by El, who stood in front of me,  a questioning face searching mine."What do you you think?". It was then that I noticed the dress she was wearing.  Deep blue, and strapless,  made out of some kind of soft, velvety, material. It came to just above her knee, and soft grey tights covered the rest of her legs.  On her feet were charcoal grey boots with three inch heels, totaly impractical  for running. I looked up at her.

"You look lovely,  if a little bit impractical" I finally answered. She frowned, puzzled.

     "Impractical? How so?"

"For running", I clarified. "We might have to you know.Run, I mean. Trouble seems to follow us wherever we go. Her puzzled frown became a glower of pure murder.

" If anything,  even one solitary alien invader messes up my one night of fun, I..... I'll..... I don't even know what I'll do, but it will not be pretty. I stood up, laughing. Who knew, tonight might even turn out to be fun. I grabbed Ellie's hand.

"I was just joking, you look brilliant.  Now run! " We laughed all the way to the ball.
